The shot was incredible! Two hits with one bullet! The problem is that both the people he shot were good guys and he wasn’t trying to shoot anyone.

A French police sniper made a nearly fatal mistake when he failed to put his safety on. As a result, He accidentally shot two people with one bullet. It gets worse; the president of France, Francois Hollande, was nearby when it happened

Here are the details of the shot, from the BBC:

he shot was fired as the officer moved position on a roof about 100m (328ft) from a tent where Mr Hollande was speaking in the town of Villognon.

The bullet went through the canvas of the tent, where drinks were being made. It passed through a waiter’s thigh and lodged in another person’s calf.

The injuries were not life-threatening.

Mr Hollande was inaugurating a new stretch of railway when a gunshot was heard. He interrupted his speech for a few moments but reports say there was no panic.

Bob Owens from Bearing Arms, makes some valid points:

Precision rifles used by military and police snipers tend to have short, light trigger pulls that makes using a safety and keeping your finger well away from the trigger mandatory until you’re ready to fire.

I think it’s likely that the police sniper in question will likely never work a dignitary protection detail again.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. That sniper better seek employment as a mime or something, he’ll be a “former” sniper soon.

  1. 1. Always treat every gun as if it is loaded
    2. Point muzzle in a safe direction
    3. KEEP FINGERS OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE
    4. Be certain of your target

    • Exactly the way my Grandpa and Dad taught me at 8 years old with my first Daisy BB rifle making me repeat it over and over i have since taught my wife and son the same. In our family guns were like what cell phones are to kids today and there has not been one injury. It is a tool to be treated with respect.

  2. Proof that there is more to being a sniper than just being a marksman. Gun control is NOT about keeping us from being armed. That’s just control in general. Gun control is ALWAYS, CONSISTENTLY, ABSOLUTELY having that tool under control.
Can you say school crossing guard?

  3. To bad it wasn’t their President, he’s all but destroyed France with his socialist beliefs and open borders that have let in the death cult of muslims that threaten their way of life!

    • My thoughts exactly. I didn’t understand the “too bad President Hollande was near by” part, maybe they were saying he was near enough by.

    • My thoughts exactly. I didn’t understand the “too bad President Hollande was nearby” part. maybe they thought he should have been even nearer.

  4. Accidentally fired a shot at only 100 yards – and they are calling this bozo a sniper???

  5. The sniper forgot the Ten Commandments of Gun Safety:
    1. Assume Every Gun Is Loaded
    2. Never muzzle something you don’t intend to destroy (Always point the gun in a safe direction)
    3. Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger Unless You’re Ready to Shoot
    4. Be Sure Of Your Target, What is in Front, And Beyond
    5. Proper Gun Storage
    6. Use The Right Ammunition for Your Gun
    7. In Case The Rifle Fails To Fire, Handle It With Care; Keep the Gun Pointed Down Range and Signal for Assistance
    8. Don’t Move Carelessly When Carrying A Firearm (see Commandment #2)
    9. Don’t Tinker With Your Gun Unless You’re A Gunsmith
10.. Do Not Use A Gun When Under The Influence Of Drugs And/Or Alcohol

  6. All these posted procedures for gun safety were drilled into me from a young age the only thing missing is making sure the gun was on safety which i’m sure is going over and over through this Frenchman’s mind. What a way to end a career in a country that’s out of control.

  7. That was NOT an incredible shot! To shoot the intended and another intended target with one bullet is an incredible shot! This was a total blunder!!

  8. That was NOT an incredible shot!! To shoot an intended target and another intended target with one bullet is an incredible shot!!

  9. I think that would be a bad thing for France for it takes years to train a sniper it does not happen over night. I think he will check from here on if his safety is on. I think it would be a very bad lost for France. Accidents happen and you learn from them. I agree it was not an incredible shot from a practice sniper shot but this tells me he is very inexperienced as a sniper = no war training. He will remember to check next time I feel sure!

  10. Feel good it was a 2-for. If he intended to kill to defend I would say he showed you he can do his efficiently I’d keep him and just say oops. Think what he could do on purpose.

  11. All of this was drilled into my head by my Dad when I was 10 years old I’m 84 and followed his rules all my life plus I was a fire arms instructor for 30 years.
