What This Gun Ignorant Bomb Squad Freaked Out About Is Pathetic

Is Michael Bloomberg training bomb squads these days? A bomb Squad in SanAntonio, TX evacuated three houses after discovering a few boxes of old rusted ammo. Apparently they have never watched myth-busters, which has an episode on throwing live ammunition into a fire. When ammo goes off outside of gun, it’s just not that dangerous. Old rusted ammo is very unlikely to fire simply from being moved, even if it did discharge, it would pose a pretty minimal risk to the public.

Here’s the fear mongering from the local bomb squad:

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department’s Bomb Squad was called to a Southwest Side neighborhood Saturday after dozens of rounds of ammunition were found underneath a home.

The ammunition was discovered on the 7900 block of Dempsey Drive, near Old Pearsall Road and Southwest Military Drive, around 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

Capt. Troy Balcar of the San Antonio Fire Department said a family member found a sealed box with about 75 rounds of decades-old ammunition underneath the house. He said the rounds were about 40 years old, based on a date written on the box. Half a dozen nearby homes were evacuated for about three hours.

“This is definitely a big danger, because they’ve been under there so long,” Balcar said. “They’ve rusted, they’ve been exposed to the weather, elements outside so we definitely want to get them disposed of as quickly as possible.”

Family members said a veteran who served for more than 30 years lived at the house until he passed away recently.

This is the second time old ammunition has been found at the home. Just last week, the bomb squad spent about half an hour disposing of shotgun shells found there.

Hmm, that’s reassuring, the spokesperson from the San Antonio bomb squad doesn’t understand the risk of common ammunition. Who on earth would trust these fools near an actual bomb?

Ammunition discharged outside of a gun simply can’t reach a high enough velocity to penetrate walls. Obviously, you wouldn’t want to discharge a bullet in your hand, but lets not act like 911 needs to be called every time someone finds corroded ammo. It’s fine for bomb squads to help citizens dispose of ammo, but evacuating nearby homes is completely insane.

  1. What a bunch of morons. Next a neighbor is going to tell on someone for having pounds of gunpowder in their garage because they relive their own ammo and the whole neighborhood will be cleared. Because people don’t understand how things work.

  2. They would really freak out at my home as I usually have between 18 to 20 thousand rounds of ammunition about 11,000 rounds of 22LR Plus as a reloader I have from fifty to one hundred pounds of smokeless powder and 15 to 20 thousand primers. All safely stored and secured but these bozos would probably shut down the whole town for fear of Armageddon.

  3. unless it is a provocation -next thing you will be ordered to have an ammo older then 3 years confiscated and if you can still buy new ammo it will have to be inspected every six months by 22 year old girl you got the job of making coffee in in full gear for the famed local Mickey Mouse bomb squad . Why was I born ?

  4. In TEXAS , I thought that babies were born with guns there , these must be yankees that moved from the north and who should go back there

  5. I don’t know that I would be putting my business out here on the innerwebs boys.
Big Brother is always watching and listening especially non liberals !

  6. Proof positive that the law enforcement community has too many idiots and Bozos in it’s ranks still, and in Texas no less. If Walker Texas Ranger was there he would have just picked up the box, took it home and had’em for snacks.

  7. Unreal. The primers were probably no good, either. Who trained these idiots, and these are the people whom supposedly have explosives and firearms training?!? Ooooh, I feel solo confident about our national security whenever these guys are around!(sarc)

  8. This is absolutely nonsensical. Who gave these people such authority?? Hasn’t someone told them how dumb they sound. I’ve had similar incidents with the “public” servants not knowing what they were doing. It occurs everywhere. People think every gun is somehow a bomb about to go off. Sheese!!

  9. Only fools idiots and know it alls claim to know what’s going to happen if you find ammunition that is rusted or just sitting their in a container. Also nut jobs if you buy ammunition at a gun store and they put your ammunition in a plastic bag for you to take home should tell you it is safe to take home as it will not explode unless you poke the cartridge in the center with a nail for the cartridge to explode and if you are holding it when it does well no more hand as your hand will explode and whats left will be amputated. Next time you need information on explosives I suggest you find someone that knows about explosives than to listen to a liar like Moore.

  10. It is a pity that these men who are supposed to be experts in their field know so little about their field. What is the matter with these people who pretend to know so much and know so little.

  11. I imagine that they would have to bring a couple of changes of depends if they went to an avid muzzleloaders house and discovered 25 pounds of Goex. I am now in my seventies and have very little hope for the human race. It seems that the older I get the less common sense there is in the world, or am I just getting old and crotchety?

    • No, you’re OK. I’m OK….the world as we used to know it has certainly ‘gone mad’, or, at least….ignorant as hell. Be glad you don’t live in Central-California, where ‘stupidity’ really thrives, and ‘political-whores’ run the State.

    • Not a lack of common sense. The problem is the lack of education. Public schools started by Horace Mann because he was sure that he could get the kids thinking the way HE thought they should. It is just like gun control. It is NOT about what they say it is about. Certainly not about education when the more money they spend, the more “xperts” they find, the worse the education gets.
Give a paddle back to each teacher and tell them to use it regularly and vigorously.

  12. Typical Guvumont response. Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, and cut with an axe.
Old Chinese proverb: Don’t swat a fly, on your forehead, with an axe.

  13. Yes this sad, but before you label all police officers morons and idiots think of how our country has changed. I am in my sixties and grew up on a farm in the south. We had rifles and shotguns for hunting and for home protection. I also served in the military and have been and avid shooter for years. The police officer today has to be ready for the least mistake that will result in a law suit. We know the likelihood of this ammunition exploding is nil, but if something does happen then the lawyers will be coming out the woodwork going after the deep pocket. The problem is we also have a generation being taught that guns and ammo are evil and just go off for no reason. Is this over kill of course but don’t blame the police for trying to protect them selves even if its sad and ridiculous. It is a sign of the times.

  14. Just like Jimmy Carter. It is bad that they don’t know. But even worse that they don’t KNOW that they don’t know. But then, it was San Antonio and the guy was likely a functional illiterate latino. What can you do?

  15. Have to justify the overwhelming amount of money needed on useless equipment. Makes for a good 60 sec. news story.
