Gun Control Completely Blows It In This City

Gun control advocates keep saying that making it harder to legally buy guns will reduce violent crime. They say it again and again and again. It’s like they took a page from the Adolf Hitler playbook who was reported to have said that if you tell a lie often enough, people will believe it.

Well, Seattle bought the lie hook, line, and sinker. They passed a “gun violence” tax in 2015 on sales of guns and ammunition in Seattle city limits. Mike Miller writes,

Proponents of the law, which went into effect on January 1, 2016, argued that neither would happen and the law would generate from $300,000 to $500,000 on an annual basis, which, in 2016, was earmarked to “fund a study of gunshot victims, including medical and behavioral interventions.”

Now, some people will be surprised what happened since the tax was put into effect. Gun stores began to close and gun and ammunition sales are down in Seattle, so gun control advocates got that out of this tax (which is, presumably, what they wanted). Of course, they probably think that reducing gun and ammunition sales will reduce violence.

They were wrong. Miller again writes,

According to the Seattle Police Department, the number of gun shootings with injuries is up 54 percent and gun deaths have doubled during the first five months of 2017, as compared to the same period before the law went into effect. […]

Dave Workman, senior editor of GunMag, rhetorically asked “how much data do you need?”, adding “The data says the law has failed to prevent what they promised it would prevent.”

City officials wouldn’t reveal the amount of revenue generated by the law in 2016, saying only that it was “under $200,000.”

So, the next time that you hear some gun grabber babble on about how reducing legal gun sales or reducing legal ammunition sales will reduce violence, just point them to the facts of the Seattle “experiment.” Gun sales and ammunition sales reduce violence, and that is the truth.

  1. THE PROPENSITY FROM “ILLOGIC” IS WITHOUT BOUNDS IN THE PERVERTED MINDS OF WHAT MAY BE A MAJORITY IN OUR NATION TODAY; WISDOM, COMMONSENSE, AND INTELLIGENCE HAVING GONE THE WAY OF ‘GOONEY BIRD’ OR SO IT SEEMS.
OUR PARENTS WHO GREW UP AND SURVIVED THE YEARS OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION AND WE THEIR CHILDREN WE WHO WERE BORN IN THE LATE 1930s AND WERE BLESSED WITH THOSE GREAT PARENTS AND THUS HAVING GROWN UP IN THE SANE YEARS OF THE 1940s & 1950s were blessed with having avoided growing up in the insanity of the HIPPY GENERATION that follows us.
The problem is compounded by the fact that we, the ‘common folks’ of those sane times have are no longer living or who are now in our late 70s are early 80 years of age are fast approaching our end of life and thus especially the insanity of the generation that followed our generation and their ‘air headed” offspring with the results that we see now on the downhill slide of our nation into the cesspool that has been created by those who have no morals, wisdom, intelligence and common sense.

  2. Hooray from a ’39er, with fond memories of a great era of American Greatness, with sacrifices for our great military and coupons for sugar, gasoline, etc. and a trip with 5 flat tires fixed with a repair kit for the tube. Every neighborhood watched out for the families with members serving in the BIG WWII. The America we grew up in, taught the ‘Golden Rule’ of the Bible, honesty, charity for others’ in need, good manners, and we never heard “any swear/foul words”. Thank God for a respectful school system, free canned orange juice for school children for nutrition-Vitamin C, and if your report card had all ‘A’s, you were given a free six bottles carrier ‘Coca Cola, free lined paper/pencils for school. There were the tears for those who did not return home from combat, and for those who did return with memories which they could not forget. Everyone had a hunting license and gun
to hunt for food for the family. We have seen what kind of today’s Americans, and their politicians spew CRUDE, and RAW anti-American hatred to decent American citizens who have the American Spirit, Patriotism, and the real American manners to others.

  3. Joseph Goebbels said, ““If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” not Hitler. Bit I’m sure Goebbels learned this from Hitler’s sick ideology.

  4. gee whiz a stupid bunch of politicians, legislating without a clue…who would have guessed …more proof that there has been many a wreck on a one track mind… maybe the voters will not be so clueless

    • Thats what is wrong with today’s society they don’t have the brains to know that their weapon is the voting machine, VOTE the idiots out of office, then they will hear the people speaking……

  5. James and Peggy — I hope many from your generation stay around for a long time. I was born in the mid 40s and unfortunately had to deal with what transpired in the 60s and 70s after returning from Vietnam. it was not pretty and has only gotten worse. This great nation is not declining — it is the people in it and they are making a total mockery of what this country used to be. The demoTRASH party has become just that — trash. The GOP is now made up of rino gutless puppets with their only interest is who’s dropping what into our pockets and it seems like our entire government is corrupt. Our so-called educators are not teaching anymore — they are brainwashing our young and young adults with all the wrong information and the parents aren’t parenting anymore. It is extremely hard for me to watch what’s happening to our country — I can only imagine how hard it is for your generation.

  6. It amazes me that the USA has survived 241 years with great intelligence, desire to work and earn a living and own guns. According the geniuses on the side wanting to ban guns are ignorant as hell. They have no idea how to train firearms properly. The training begins the day you purchase it and take home. You start training it to stay where you put it, until you need it. Everyone knows that an untrained gun will go out on its own and shoot someone. We don’t need to ban guns, we just need to train gun owners how to train their weapons and make sure if those weapons go out on their own, they know how to act in public: RIGHT.

  7. But but but POT is legal! We don’t need guns, we can smoke weed! Yea! Weed! Who needs guns?

Morons, every last council member who voted for this tax is a complete and total moron.

  8. Seattle shows its lack of any intelligence. So they tax the hell out of guns and ammo in the city limits. Now they lose all the tax revenue that guns and ammo gave them and so anyone with any intelligence would just go to another location to buy the necessary products to protect themselves from the idiots in Seattle area. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. I know if I were stupid enough to live there that’s exactly what I would do should I desire to purchase these items.

  9. AMEN!!
Born in 1935, I was blessed enough to experience all that above comments
cover. My Grandmother had a cottage in South Belmar, NJ and my family would ((sans my father monday – friday) who had to work during the week) spend the summer at the Jersey shore. WE USED TO WALK THE BOARDWALK AT NIGHT AND TO THIS DAY, I STILL REMEMBER THOSE NIGHTS WHEN THE SEA ON THE HORIZON WOULD LIGHT UP IN A FLASH!
ANOTHER SHIP TORPEDOED BY NAZI UBOATS. THE NEXT DAY THE SURF WOULD BE COVERED WITH TAR FROM THE OIL SECRETED BY THE SINKING SHIPS!! IN THOSE TIMES THERE WAS BUT ONE USA, ALL TOGETHER IN FACING THE ENEMY!! Those who fought and supported the war effort would be (and those still living are ) ashamed of what has happened to the SPIRIT OF THE USA as exhibited in WWII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. I thank God that I am not a child in this day and age. I also thank God that I have no children growing up in this time period.

  11. I am a 1961 grad and I agree with both of you. Our country has gone to hell in a hand basket as my mother used to say. All I can say now is go Mr Trump and fix our poor sick country if you can and god bless you!

  12. I fully agree with Janes Allen Wyatt Jr. I am from the class of 61 that waited a few yers to finish. I fully believe that we tryed to bring up our children in the right way but there was too many outside fources working against us. I am glad I wont be here for the bad changes that are near at hand.

  13. I fully agree with Janes Allen Wyatt Jr. I wish the Class of ’61 could be much larger’

  14. There is no known cure for stupidity, and unfortunately they have figured out how to breed. Even rats can do that. The ideal plan would be to trap and sterilize them before they breed.

  15. I am aghast at the people of Seattle. I believe they have lost their minds. A law in Seattle is useless as a person simply goes elsewhere not far away and gets whatever arms they so choose. Ban the whole county or the I-5 corridor. There are plenty of conservatives in Wenachee, Yakima, Tri-Cities, Walla Walla, Pullman and Spokane. The last two are on the Idaho border where guns are going to be for sale forever. But I suspect there are enough illegal guns in the Seattle area that law enforcement won’t find for way into the future. Those will be used in killings for a very long time. What a bunch of dufuses.

  16. There were 637 shootings in Baltimore in 2015, a 72 percent increase from 2014, when there were 370 shootings. In all, 322 adults and 22 juveniles were killed in 2015, including 10 children under the age of 10, and 12 children and teenagers from 10 to 17. Ninety-one of the homicide victims were from 18 to 24 years old, 133 were from 25 to 34, and five were 60 years old or older. Reference, New York Times. .I’m not trying to say that SB281 caused this , That I’m trying to convey is that the Maryland infringement SB281 does nothing to stop any of this, Because laws do not, and have never applied to a law breaker, and can only be used after the fact. All they do is make it harder for the good people to defend ourselves. As of March 26, the last date for which comprehensive city crime data is available, homicides in 2016 were up more than 10 percent compared to the same time last year. While overall violent and property crime was down 3 percent, non-fatal shootings were up 49 percent, aggravated assaults were up 11 percent and robberies were up 21 percent.

    Shuttalsworts vs. Birmingham Alabama
    Vol. 373, Pg. 262,
No license, or fee can be required to exercise a right. If the state converts a right (Liberty) into a Privilege, the citizen can ignore the license and fee and engage in the right with impunity.
    Supreme Court ruling

    Murdock v. Pennsylvania,
    Vol. 319, Pg. 105,
The state cannot and does not have the power to license, nor tax, a Right (Liberty) guaranteed to the people.

  18. When a city taxes items that are expensive, the customers will travel outside that city to purchase these items. I rather doubt that this new tax stopped many gun or ammo purchases, it just stopped the purchasers from doing so in town, thereby not paying the tax.

  19. More gun CONTROL laws only restrict lawful citizens. ANY street cop knows that crooks and thugs WILL get guns ‘on the street’ just like drugs. Most CONTROL laws are not enforced now. There used to be a law that REQUIRED a mandatory (NO parole) 5-year sentence for any crime INVOLVING a firearm above the sentence for the crime involved.
