Shocker! What Works Better In High Gun Violence Areas Than Gun Control?

Gun control, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be going away, but, as people learn to be more rational and less emotionally driven about their position on gun control, then more intelligent solutions to gun violence can actually occur. Because, as we know, gun control isn’t the solution to gun violence; it only makes the problem worse.

So, what does reduce gun violence? More policing in high gun violence areas.

Shocking, I know, and many anti-gunners will think that we are just blowing smoke when we say that, but research from Johns Hopkins (ironically from the Bloomberg School of Public Health) supports this conclusion. Alicia Samuels writes about this research:

The report found that the hot spot program focused on guns, which is run by the Baltimore Police Department’s Violent Crime Impact Section, led to a 12 to 13 percent reduction in homicides and 18 to 20 percent fewer shootings in areas where it was implemented between 2007 and 2012.

Now, on the flip side, the hot spot program, “which focuses on individuals with a history of gun violence and curtailing illegal gun possession,” unfortunately led to complaints of police abuse and lawsuits against the city. With these kinds of complaints and monetary outlay to defend and, if they are lost, pay out for those lawsuits, it’s possible that this kind of policing may not be practical over the long term.

But it does make you wonder who is filing the lawsuits: Is it innocent people who really are being harassed by police in those areas or is it people who should be harassed because they are doing illegal and wrong things but they just want to get the police off their backs? I can’t say. If it’s the first one, then that needs to stop. Innocent people should be left alone. If it’s the second one, then the police should crack down harder on those who want to do evil.

Regardless of the situation with complaints and lawsuits, the fact of the matter remains that policing is a solution to gun violence; but gun control isn’t. Now, we just have to keep saying this over and over until anti-gunners can get it through their heads.

  1. ANTI-GUN IS EITHER AN ACT OF STUPIDITY OR AN ATTEMPT TO OVER THROW THE CITIZEN GOVERNMENT OF THIS NATION BY PICKING APART THE CONSTITUTION AND THE BILL OF RIGHTS PIECE BY PIECE!! THAT’S THE LEFTIST TREASONOUS COMMUNIST WAY!! THEIR AGENDA IS TO ENSLAVE US ALL!!

  2. do you really think baltimore is telling the truth on stats…..????
NO GUN CONTROL OF ANY KIND, THE MORE YOU TAKE AWAY THE MORE THEY DO..
    PERIOD

  3. If Black lives really matter then they should let Police do what they do best, protect the public !!!

    • If Black LIES Matter, then they would be spending all their time in Chicago denouncing the deaths of 100s of blacks killed by other blacks. BLM is simply one more in a long list of leftist democrat BS, falls right in with the feminist wearing pussy hats, the Occupy Wall Street Loons and whatever else they can think of at any given time.

  4. Go to ANY medium to large size newspaper and for 1 month read every news report on crime, then keep a record of how many of these crimes involve a gun and how many were committed by criminals who, by EXISTING GUN CONTROL LAWS, were not allowed to own a gun. I have done this on multiple occasions and never came up with an answer of less than 92% of gun related crimes being committed by those who were already denied the right to even own a gun. This is a classic example of just how useless gun control laws are.

  5. Not a word about gun control, but something interesting about violence.
While on vacation in Spain, in the city of Madrid, I happen to notice that
there was a policeman on foot at EVERY intersection and they were
carrying full automatic machine guns in plain sight.
Going down a highway I noticed someone pulled over by the police
and there was one policeman at the back of the car (right at the bumper)
with a 12 gauge shotgun leveled at the driver, and another policeman
walked up to the drivers window and placed his full automatic machine gun
on the open window (pointed at the driver).
We went right on by, but I felt that the policeman was safe, and I felt
    that I was really safe.
While there for a week, I never heard of any violence, except for a terrorist
bomber who blew up his truck without killing anyone (he was already dead
from the policeman on the corner and his truck was in the middle of an
intersection and not close enough to any buildings to destroy them. There
were lots of windows broken, but that was it).
Now, I may be totally crazy, but I felt like people could walk around with a
gun in plain sight, and as long as they were OBEYING THE LAW, there would
not be a problem at all.

  6. Abridgement of the rights of the law abiding citizenry, which is what Gun Control as usually offered actually is, has yet to work as advertised, anywhere. For those who feel otherwise, please provide supporting data, with specifics.

  7. Here is an example of a 19 year old boy obtaining a semi-automatic rifle. Is that legal in Florida? If not, where did he get the gun? His motive is not anything new but how he got the gun needs to come out. Hopefully it will.

  8. we can always force the bad ones to move into a more law control’ed area and make sure their new surrounding areas are put wise to their bad behaviors and tell them to take steps to control the neighborhood the way they see fit but don’t let them move all in the same area. It’s called being forcefull, but it just might work.

  9. One fact that many fail to grasp is that the people that have felonies and have just got on parole need a firearm for protection. The gangs inside have plans for him/her to go out and get some money – if he/she doesn’t, there is someone out of prison that will come after him.
