Of all of the measures that anti-gunners are trying to put into place “to keep the kids safe,” possibly the stupidest is the idea of limiting the size of magazines to try to force the shooter to reload more often.
Of course, they argue that making the shooter reload more often will give people a chance to escape while the weapon is being reloaded. I follow the logic. Unfortunately, however, while the government focuses resources on this idea, they aren’t addressing a real solution to the gun violence problem which makes this idea merely a distraction giving a false sense of security.
And we have proof that smaller clips doesn’t prevent a mass shooter from killing off a lot of people: Parkland, Florida, and the proof comes from an editor at the New York Times (yes, really!). Patricia Mazzei of the Times tweeted on August 8th,
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri of Pinellas County, head of Florida’s state-appointed commission investigating the Parkland shooting, said today that video from inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School showed the gunman, Nikolas Cruz, had to reload his AR-15 assault rifle several times.
Now, because Mazzei is with the New York Times, I seriously doubt that she understands the implications of what this tweet means, but it isn’t lost on Jon Stokes who writes,
So let’s be clear on what this means: the 9th worst mass shooting in US history, with a 17-person fatality count, was carried out using magazines that are half the size the state and federal Assault Weapon Ban bans want us limited to (i.e. 10 rounds).
Truly, magazine capacity does not matter for mass shootings, and Parkland should be the nail in the coffin for that myth.
Magazine capacity matters when you’re under time pressure because the target is shooting back, i.e. in a gunfight. It doesn’t matter when you’ve got plenty of time to reload. And if you look at the duration of these mass shooting events, the number of shots fired, and the realistic rate-of-fire of the weapon, these guys are spending a bunch of time not shooting, so they can reload at leisure.
Anyway, the next time somebody tells you that a ban on mags over 10 rounds will save lives, point them to Parkland.
Stokes nails it with his comments. Magazine size was not an issue and didn’t stop the Parkland shooter from doing terrible things. Frankly, it’s hard to say for sure that having to reload made any difference in saving lives, so, instead of focusing on this gun control failure as a “solution” to the problem of gun violence, why don’t we try to focus on other solutions like having more responsible armed citizens around to actually be able to stop an active shooter?
Attempting to “DEBUNK” any… repeat: ANY(!) LIB MYTH is simply a waste of time, energy & LOGIC. WHY? Because they pull this stuff outta their … {u know what’s}. TO CREATE EVER MORE LAWS, in a simple effort to make Gun Ownership EVER MORE COMPLEX to comply! …with their ULTIMATE GOAL: GUN CONFISCATION.
NO – THE RIGHT WAY TO APPROACH A LIB … is simply to VOTE ‘EM OUT, with POliticians like TRUMP – who will then start to ELIMINATE (RESCIND) the hundreds & hundreds of SENSELESS GUN LAWS in our communities and States. With more than 25,000 GUN LAWS in our country, even the POLICE admit “We CANT enforce them ALL!” Being as CRIMINALS dont care HOW many u hv, one more has proven: IT WONT achieve ANYTHING!!

Opinions are like drops of rain..there are just too many. There will ALWAYS be guns in our society. The dynamics of confiscation would leave law abiding citizens defenseless..overpopulation of animals that would otherwise be necessarily culled and a booming black market for illegal guns thus making lawbreakers out of otherwise law abiding citizens. A gun free society opens the door for the beginning of absolute and total control of government over it’s people. This is already underway in other areas..cellphones..social media..EZ pass..debit cards for everything as small as a cup of coffee at a 7-11. All at the instant perusal of ANYONE interested. We have been relegated to the proverbial “FLOCK OF SHEEP” already.
When a liberal says that the anti gun/anti Constitution law that they want to pass is just “common sense”, stop listening. They wouldn’t know common sense if it built a nest in their crotch.
Gun control is a ridiculous idea. It won’t stop people from occasionally going crazy and wanting to kill defenseless, innocent people, nothing can prevent that. It just happens. The only thing that will stop the crazies from going out and murdering defenseless, innocent people is to ARM said innocent people so they aren’t defenseless anymore. That is the only way to dissuade the crazies from their rampages. It’s not nearly as much fun for them if their victims can fight back.
Gun laws will NEVER stop violent criminals from getting guns, criminals don’t obey the law, that’s what the word means, so they are going to get guns anyway, it’s sort of a job requirement for violent criminals. Gun laws only stop law abiding citizens from owning guns to protect themselves from the criminals. This is just common sense, people, we are being sold cause for cure. The gun laws we already have are the primary reason we have public mass shootings every week in this country, now. If people could arm themselves as they pleased, like the second amendment says, the criminals and school shooter psychos would think twice before they went looking for victims, since there would be no way to know who might be armed, and prepared to defend themselves. Repeal ALL gun laws, and that will pretty much be the end of mass shootings, and there will be a lot less violent crime over all. They like shooting people, but they don’t like it when people shoot back. That’s why they usually go for schools, plenty of innocent, defenseless kids, and they are GUN FREE ZONES, so there won’t be anyone to resist them.
