Proposed NJ Bill Is The Height Of Gun Control Stupidity

Just when you thought that gun control advocates couldn’t get even more ridiculous, they come up with something new to make you shake your head about. First, it’s opposition to bump stocks. Then, it’s opposition to scary looking rifles (regardless of what the specs really are). Now, it’s something completely different.

In the case of a proposed bill in New Jersey, the question about limitations on clip size may have reached the height of complete stupidity. A writer going by the name of Miguel gives us the details:

I will admit that I do not pay much attention to the Garden State’s Gun Control initiatives because it is like trying to swim in a mental cesspool. Perhaps is why I might have missed S798 which proposed the following:

This bill revises the definition of “large capacity ammunition magazine” to reduce the number of rounds of ammunition a legal magazine may hold in this State.
Under current law, it is unlawful to own or possess an ammunition magazine that is capable of holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition.
This bill would reduce the maximum capacity of a legal ammunition magazine in New Jersey to five rounds.

And now that New Jersey got the blessing by a Federal Court to ban anything above 15 rounds, I would expect this bill to come back in 2019 and pass. Of course that would mean that they would have to do something about revolvers in 2020 because you cannot have one type of gun with no magazine, have  more rounds than the ones with magazines.

Now, we’ve had this discussion before. Limiting magazine capacity is simply a tactic to make anti-gunners feel better without actually doing anything of substance to reduce gun violence. All a determined shooter has to do is buy more clips to carry with him.

Simply put, our efforts are better put towards addressing the causes of gun violence instead of wasting time and money on a relative non-issue like limiting magazine size.

  1. If I recall, the tubular magazine that’s almost ubiquitous on .22 caliber rifles will hold something like twenty to twenty two .22 shorts. You can bet there are at least a hundred thousand of those in New Jersey, like two of mine – which moved out of N.J. – where I grew up and spent most of my life – with me nine years ago. Even with .22LR I think they might hold sixteen. They’re going to make the most common target shooting gun illegal? That’s going to be a tough call.

    • When someone is hell bent on killing people he or she doesn’t care about breaking the law on the number of rounds held at one time… these IDIOTS need to be banned! More reasons to move the hell out of this corrupt state!

      • You’re exactly right, and your comment speaks to the stupidity of gun laws in general. The only people who will obey gun laws are people who obey laws in the first place. Criminals are criminals because they don’t care about laws. The only people who will obey gun laws will be the people who should have them.

    • yes they will. I give you as an example what took place in the UK just a short time ago. First it was “registration”, then it was “surrender” arms deemed “offensive”. Then the decree came down that the remaining (newly offensive) weapons, probably 22s and shotguns WERE NOT to remain in the home, they had to be stored in the “shooting club armory”.. Then the scum would be able to simply drive up to the club load up the “offending weapons” and take them to the foundry for destruction and sell the scrap to Japan for new cars..

    • They are giving the 22s a pass . They are calling them Boy Scout guns or some ridiculous thing like that

    • I don’t know when this article was written but we are already down to 10 round magazine’s as of Dec. 2nd . 15 round mags is the old number. And yes they are magazines not clips

  2. They’re magazines, not clips – unless you’re using a Grand or a Springfield. Surely you know better.

    • Thank you! You covered the problem that NON-gun owners do not understand.
Question: The “grand” clip holds 8 rounds. How does the clip operated with only 5 rounds? Will it work? or will this “5 round tactic of ANTI-GUNNER IDIOTS” officially stop the use of the “grands”?

    • They’re secure in their ignorance. The parkland shooter (name deliberately not stated) used 5 round magazines while the cops waited outside. In a “gun free zone” who will protect the innocent and unarmed?

      • Actually he used ten round mags. No one makes a five round mag, to my knowledge, for an AR15.

    • While technically you are correct many gun writers in days gone by used the two terms interchangeably. You will note the author of the article did so as well. ” Limiting magazine capacity is simply a tactic to make anti-gunners feel better without actually doing anything of substance to reduce gun violence. All a determined shooter has to do is buy more clips to carry with him.”

  3. Gun banners don’t know nor care to know what a clip is and what a magazine is or for that matter a tubular or cylinder. All they want is everyone to be a good little Victim! One idiot goes off using a bump stock and whammo ban bump stocks. They actually expect people to either destroy them or turn them in. They do not realize the importance of the Second Amendment nor care!

      • Or in the words of Benjamin Franklin “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting over what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.”

  4. As if any bad guy is going to pay attention to such rules anyway. Just like no-carry zones around schools, all rules like this do is limit the law-abiding citizen. The law-breakers pay no attention, except to scoff.

    • Gordon,
Well, unless hou have a law that you can convict a parent if a kid gets his hands on an unsecured firearm. See how fast such law would help bring about convictions of parents and see the numbers of firearms by kids stop.

  5. Bust the politicians for Conspiracy to violate the Constitution and their oath to defend it. Nothing else will stop them, Certainly not money as they use ours against us, another violation of law. Jail the bastards.

  6. Well…lived in Delaware for a while and visited New Jersey enough to know the state is full of stupidity.

  7. Clips?? Once is maybe an error but over and over? Google clips vs magazines! Even rookies know the difference

  8. The country has gone (crazy)on gun control, common since is the way to go,but of course some will not go in that direction.

  9. So since this stupid regulation, I guess everyone should carry a revolver since it holds 6 rounds. Unless the next ban only allows revolvers to carry 5 rounds. I lived in NJ from birth until 21. I moved to OK in May of 1989 the day they started regulations on AR-15s. This is what happens when you have liberals in NJ running the government. In fact you aren’t even able to hunt deer with a rifle. Shotguns only.

    • I think that is why they chose 5 rounds as the limit for the mag. A semi-auto could thus hold 1 round in the chamber, plus 5 in the mag, for 6 total – the same as a fully loaded cylinder in a revolver. Of course there are a number of classic revolvers that hold more than 6; a 9 round .22 revolver comes to mind. What of those?

  10. I thought the USSCOTUS already ruled that unconstitutional under another state trying that mode of lawlessness!

  11. This is not proposed legislation, it is now the law. Tube magazines permanently attached to rifles are exempt. There is opposition to the law and a suit has been filed. Presently, an Obama packed judge panel has rejected the suit. Most importantly, if you own a banned magazine in NJ it is a felony!

  12. Living in NY is no better, Cuomo pushed through a 7 round limit in simi-auto handguns. Very few manufacturers, offer a 7 round mag. Which doesn’t matter to the governor.

  13. I am amazed at the people who cannot see daylight anymore. Laws are for legal people. Criminals could care less. There are enough drug users to get any sort of gun they desire by trading illegal drugs for an illegal gun. What good is the law?

  14. SO THIS IS THE NEXT STEP TO DISARMING PEOPLE FOR THEIR 2ND AMMENDMENT RIGHT. KEEP AND BARE ARMS TO PROTECT AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. IF THE NJ PEOPLE GO FOR THIS THEY ARE THE NEXT LAMBS TO SLAUGHTER TO THE NWO. TOTAL BULLSHIT!
YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO GO AGAINST THIS UNLES YOU WANT TO BECOME THE NWO SLAVES. YES SLAVES! YOUR PERSONAL MONIES AND VALUES WILL BE CONFISCATED FOR THE NWO AND YOU WILL BE LIVING LIKE THE BLACKS IN AFRICA. 5 FAMILIES TO AN APARTMENT. ARE YOU PEOPLE STUPID? IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT? IF NOT THEN GET YOURSELVES TOGETHER AND GO AGAINST THE STATE OTHERWISE THAT;S WHERE YOU WILL BE. THE NWO WANTS THIS. YOU PROBABLY DON;T. EVEN IF YOU ARE RICH, DON’T THINK THAT YOU ARE SAFE. ALL OF YOUR MONEY WILL GO TO THE NWO. ALL OF IT!. DON’T BE STUPID AND FIGHT AGAINST THIS. THIS IS THE FIRST PHASE. NEXT WILL BE YOUR WEAPONS, THEN IT WILL BE YOUR MONEY AND HOUSES THEN YOU ARE SCREWED.I LIVED IN NJ FOR 25 YRS AND I AM SO GLAD THAT I LEFT.

  15. What a bunch of lame minded idiots. The politicians should all be banned. What an absolute pititfull bunch of libtards. This has never been a case of gun control or making anyone safe, just another backdoor scheme to outlaw all guns. The second amendment is one of the original ten that cannot be repealed and considered an inalienable right above the hookie laws of man. WHAT PART OF SHALL NOT BE INFRIDGED DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND you jackwagons!

  16. At Jim Camp, Having a shotgun (w/slug} only deer season is very sensible as in Indiana. Even a little 22LR goes over a mile, so the likely-hood of hitting, at least, a dwelling, is a very real safety concern. Having a shotgun only deer season in the Dakotas, Montana, Alaska??? Well, you get the drift!! That’s talking about a hunting season. A totally different scenario is self defense of the home or licensed concealed (or open) carry, I totally am for whatever makes you feel you need!!

  17. Fear not guys…. If you’ve got any free thought left…. You, ( we ) will just ignore the BS and become criminals like our forefathers who fought the British.

  18. We need to do this with the ATF ruling that bumpstocks are illegal also. There reasoning is that a bumpstock allows the gun to be shot continuously with only one trigger pull. This is incorrect! The trigger has to reset between each shot, thus the trigger must be released.

  19. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it against the law to commit murder, robbery and assault? What makes the people that want to pass more gun control think the people that are committing those crimes are going to obey a gun/magazine ban?

  20. Oh, okay, now I get it. Once they get any number of rounds at all, made to become illegal, everybody will have to get rid of all their guns. Which, in turn, will make the state of New Jersey a gun-free zone, which will in turn mean that nobody can get shot in New Jersey, because everybody will have turned in their guns as being illegal. And, nobody will want to break the law, so, therefore, everybody in New Jersey is safe. Sure, that makes sense……….

  21. Wouldn’t is be nice if we got a TRULY Constitutionally SCOTUS, and the ruling after the first Gun Control law that hit their docket, was not only constitutionally correct but they took the next step and declared that any and all laws passed by congress, and states and cities, etc etc etc, were UNCONSTITUTIONAL and NULL AND VOID. Going all the way back to the 1934 National Firearms Act.

And it a sub-note to the ruling it removed the letter F from the illegal and unconstitutional policing organization known as the ATF and let them police the A and the T !

  22. “Son of Sam” did his dirty work with a Taurus “Bulldog” .44 cal revolver that only could hold five rounds. That should make all of us feel much safer, right?
