Why People Should Trust CCW Folks More Than Police

It’s simply amazing to me that anti-gun activists believe that people carrying concealed (legally) are dangerous to the general public. Why do I say this? Well, think about it. If private citizens are not to be trusted, then who will keep law-abiding citizens safe from criminals? Who is going to stop violence from occurring?

The only answer has to be law enforcement officers.

So, what’s the problem with that? Matt Agorist explains:

If we were to believe the rhetoric that more people carrying guns would lead to more crime, there would be a correlation showing an increase in crime among concealed carry holders. However, a study conducted by the Crime Prevention and Research Center, which examined these numbers, found the opposite.

What’s more, not only are concealed carry permits not committing the crimes the anti-gun crowd would like us to believe, but the study found cops are far more likely to commit crimes than permit holders.

According to the study, “permit holders are convicted of misdemeanors and felonies at less than a sixth of the rate for police officers.”

“With about 685,464 full-time police officers in the U.S. from 2005 to 2007, we find that there were about 103 crimes per hundred thousand officers,” CPRC President John R. Lott Jr. calculates, which he noted is admittedly low due to under-reporting. “For the U.S. population as a whole, the crime rate was 37 times higher—3,813 crimes per hundred thousand people,” he noted.

However, these “crimes” for average citizens are things that police officers will not arrest each other over and often times can get away with. Moreover, as we have shown, police officers have a far greater rate of domestic violence and sexual misconduct than the average population.

But looking at the sample of concealed permit carriers, their crime rate dwarfs that of police. “Between October 1, 1987 and June 30 2017, Florida revoked 11,189 concealed handgun permits for misdemeanors or felonies,” according to the report. “This is an annual revocation rate of 10.4 permits per 100,000.”

“In Texas in 2016 (the last year for which data is available), 148 permit holders were convicted of a felony or misdemeanor—a conviction rate of 12.3 per 100,000,” according to Lott. “Among police, firearms violations occur at a rate of 16.5 per 100,000 officers. Among permit holders in Florida and Texas, the rate is only 2.4 per 100,000.”

Think about that.

Now, I’m not suggesting that most law enforcement officers are criminals (I know several, and all of them are good people who want to do the right thing). That doesn’t change the fact, however, that being in law enforcement doesn’t mean that person is suddenly and magically turned into a moral person. It just means that they have a firearm and, too often, a cover for their crimes as they are less likely to be convicted than the average person.

Show these statistics to your anti-gun friends. The fact of the matter is that the people willing to go through the legal process to get a firearm are also more likely to want to use those firearms for non-criminal reasons (i.e., self-defense and recreation like hunting and target shooting). If anti-gunners want a safer world, then they should support and encourage people who are gun owners.

  1. Not long ago there was a traffic stop on my road, at night, I heard the commotion and saw the lights so I went out to investigate, well lookie loo, to my astonishment there were guns drawn by LE and the person pulled over was hollering out the window “excuse me, sir, what have I done wrong” repeatedly with his hands plainly visible out the window. I started videoing with my phone. Things cooled down soon. I don’t know the reason for the stop, never heard. I do know a 13-year-old boy was killed by LE not a mile from me, he was carrying an airsoft rifle.
What I’m trying to say is, the Police have no qualm in drawing their weapons nowadays on you and me, the average citizen. As I carry regularly, I don’t believe there would be a reason to pull my weapon unless a threat was imminent and then only to stop that threat. c
So who would you trust more, me, or LE when it comes to your life?????????

  2. I’ve tried to explain this very “fact” many times to people. Another”fact” is, policing has nothing to do with public safety today! It’s all about how much $$$ can they take from you! If they can’t take or make $$$ from you, they could care less about you, FACT!!!

  3. I agree with the artical. I was a LEO and on a high majority there were more good cops then bad. Temptations and immortality do come into play. With officers and everyone. But as ccw’s were more apt to defend then rob someone.. And yes, the dems will never get it..

    • I’m retired LEO and there are police that are quick to draw and fire. Remember the CCW doesn’t respond to 30 calls a night for “man with gun”, “Robbery in progress” “disturbance house” ” person screaming” “rape in progress” and make car stops, and pedestrian stops etc. In some of the worst neighborhoods in the country. Look at Ferguson, that kid should have been commended not run off the department. Did anyone check the amount of times a LEO confronts circumstances where guns are drawn for their own safety and the amount of times a CCW does. I’m not condoning illegal use of deadly force. I just want to take into consideration how much more a LEO is apt to be involved in a life of death situation five days/nights a week 365 days a year. I’m certain unqualified and under trained officers are on departments through out the country, but that’s politically motivated.

      • My first thought was your last sentence as well as good vetting of officers during training. I know a bunch here and, yes, they’re good, honest men BUT there are those who shouldn’t be in uniform. The difference is here they’re removed.

  4. The Lib/Progs on’t really care about public safety. if they can disarm the public, it makes their ideal of cradle to grave control just that much easier to achieve.
They will do anything to get, keep, and expand that power.

    • Exactly…and we know that but in a place like Chicago they also don’t clamp down on those who are the problem, which categorically Dumbascraps, so the problems continue. One reason, I suspect, is that to remove all of the problems from Chicago, they would need far more prisons because they refuse to properly deal with the punks/savages.

  5. Fact is if a person goes through a background check to purchase a weapon then goes through a second background check to get a concealed carry license that person is very likely to make sure he or she does not violate the law which could result in loss of the concealed carry license and the weapon. Concealed carry license holders are extremely law abiding considering what they have to lose,.!!

  6. All if this is useful data: however, we aren’t discussing the primary reason and that is education. How do we educate the people in an urban society about guns. Most have never seen a real gun in person, never attended any class discussing purpose and lawful uses of firearms, never attended a class on safety and actually fired a firearm. Sadly this also describes the vast majority of people we have elected to office. While many states have constitutional carry I believe under current pubic opinion concealed carry is the most acceptable way to protect yourself and family. At least it greatly diminishes OMG that person has a gun terrified responses by the uneducated. I hate stupid!

  7. While Stalin was murdering 40 million people and Hitler was murdering 13 million people, the USA was IMMUNE against genocide, THANKS TO THE 2ND AND 1ST AMENDMENTS TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION. AND NOW THE CURRENT ENEMY WANT TO ABOLISH BOTH 2ND AND 1ST AMENDMENTS.
WHEN, NOT IF, GENOCIDE HAPPENS AGAIN, A SAVING REMNANT IS NEEDED TO SAVE THE POPULATION FROM COMPLETE EXTINCTION. The people who resist against genocide, and have found a way to remain unkilled, are the Saving Remnant.
Government is the SECOND most deadly weapon ever devised, after the human mind. Like ALL weapons, government is no better or worse than whoever wields it. If murderers control the government, then you cannot trust the government. THAT is when you need a Saving Remnant to SAVE the lives of the people.
Lastly, the ones who PROTECT the people are the most important.
And, i do not trust murderers like Stalin and Hitler.
    HE>i.
