... giving this a 4 star only because it's been fun trying to figure it out and it basically works ...
I'm giving this a 4 star only because it's been fun trying to figure it out and it basically works as advertised. There is a learning curve. This review also applies to an AR platform. Specifically an CAR A4 from Rock River Arms (I'm not affiliated with that company). I haven't had a chance to play with the night vision, so I have no opinion on that. I could not get the zeroing to work as described in the manual. However, it appears you can adjust the X and Y axis manually, so there is a way to zero. It's tedious, but it worked well for me once I figured it out. My example is after I attached the scope, I was shooting tight groups about 12 inches below and 2 to 3 inches right of the target. I had to zero initially at 10 yards because I couldn't detect impact at 50yards. My 10 yard X/Y correction was +15/+212. After that correction, I put 7 rounds into a quarter size target using 14x. Keep in mind, you need sand bags or a bi pod to dial this in. A sturdy shooting platform is a must.A battery pack is a must. I got mine from ATN. The ATN 16 Extended Life 16000mAH Battery pack. I put in regular alkaline batteries to try to get it setup and with everything activated, drained them in less than 2 hours and never got to fire a round. My criticism of the battery pack is that it's bulky for my AR platform. Plus with the wire leading to the scope, it all looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. I don't know if it's an option, but I don't think it would work well for a left handed shooter. The battery pack goes on the right side of the stock. I'll attach some pics.Lastly, it's not a scope. It's a video camera with a computer. If you lose power, you have no "scope". Also, I had to collapse my AR stock to get my eye in the view finder which is not a comfortable or natural shooting position for me. In my natural shooting position, I can see the shooting reticle, but I cannot see any of the information on the sides of the display. I had to make adjustments which is fine.I pointed out the negatives I ran into because I find that most helpful in reviews. Also, I generally shoot with fixed sights using Kentucky windage and I shoot just fine whether that's at 50 yards or 300 yards. I'm not sure if this product is practical, but I will say it's fun. Plus, you get to enter ballistic information and weather information. The range finder is cool. I stand by my 4 stars for the fun of it.**edit** - I figured out the zeroing. I keep a lot of paper plates on hand and tend to shoot at them when I don't have any fresh targets. There is a "ghost reticle" when zeroing that you can't see on a white target. You keep the "ghost reticle" on your bullseye after firing a shot, while you use the up/down/left/right buttons to move your point of impact. Then you hit your center button to zero/save/exit. I didn't see that until I bought fresh targets that were black and neon for the impact points. I hope that helps.
