I’d like to think that something that everyone cares about is protecting those in our society who are physically weaker than other people. After all, if we aren’t working to protect women, children, the elderly, and those dealing with illnesses and medical problems, can we really call our society a civilized society?
I would argue that, no, we aren’t being civilized if we aren’t protecting those who need protecting.
So, for any decent human being, the question really comes down to the best way to protect those who are physically weaker from attackers. And in today’s story, we have a clear example of the best way for physically weaker adults, such as women and the elderly, to protect themselves from attackers. Lorenz Duchamps writes,
An elderly woman from Idaho acted in self-defense when she shot and killed a masked home intruder who terrorized her at gunpoint, a prosecutor announced in an incident review this week.
Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Jolley said on April 9 that the case of Christine Jenneiahn, 85, is “one of the most heroic acts of self-preservation I have ever heard of.”“This case presents an easy analysis of self-defense and justifiable homicide,” Mr. Jolley wrote in the review shared by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The alleged home invader entered Ms. Jenneiahn’s home, hit her on the head, and handcuffed her to a chair.
Duchamps continues:
While Mr. Condon continued to burglarize her home, Ms. Jenneiahn “ultimately decided that it was ‘now or never’ and drew her concealed 357 magnum and engaged Condon, striking him with both her shots,” the review stated.
Mr. Condon returned fire, Mr. Jolley said, emptying a 9mm pistol and striking the elderly lady multiple times in her abdomen, leg, arm, and chest. The severely wounded suspect then retreated into the adjoining kitchen, where he died from the gunshot wounds.
As Mr. Condon retreated to the kitchen, Ms. Jenneiahn fell to the floor while still handcuffed and was there for about 10 hours before her son found her and gave her a phone to call 911. Deputies arrived at approximately 12:17 p.m. and provided lifesaving measures.
Just think what this scumbag could have done to this elderly lady if she hadn’t been armed with her own gun. Would she even be alive? Maybe not.
And it’s situations like these that make it abundantly clear that if we, as a society, really care about keeping women, children, and other members of our society safe from violent criminals, then, we need to be encouraging all adults to arm themselves with firearms and to train and become proficient with them.
Because if a criminal attacks you and you hope to survive, you may not have enough time to wait for law enforcement to show up to deal with the problem.
