I knew, just as soon as I’d typed the headline to this article, that anyone on the political left who reads that headline will immediately assume that I’m going to advocate for some kind of armed insurrection if Trump doesn’t win.
But that’s not where I’m going with this. Not at all.
This article isn’t about insurrections. It’s about making sure that you and your family are safe, no matter who wins in November.
Now, maybe you’re asking why I would be bringing that up in relation to the Presidential election. It’s a fair question, and if you don’t remember the “mostly peaceful” protests that saw people killed over the last few years, along with increasing violent crime rates under the Biden/Harris administration and attempts on Trumps life, then, read on. Tom Ozimek writes,
A new poll shows that the vast majority of Americans are at least somewhat worried about a possible outbreak of violence following the fast-approaching Nov. 5 presidential election.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll, released on Oct. 28, found that 41 percent of registered voters were “extremely” or “very” concerned about post-election political violence, with another 35 percent saying they are “somewhat” concerned about an outbreak of unrest after Election Day.
A higher percentage of Americans (82 percent) said they were at least “somewhat” concerned about increased political violence directed at election officials or political figures.
It’s disturbing that so many people are concerned about political violence. But, sadly, civil discourse and civil disagreement has gone the way of the dodo, it seems.
Now, Trump seemed to blame the possibility of violence on “people he labeled ‘radical left lunatics’ and the ‘enemy from within.’” And I think that he’s probably right. After all, statistically, legal gun owners (who are overwhelmingly politically conservative) have a lower rate of crime that even law enforcement officers. So, like we saw in those “mostly peaceful” protests over the last few years, the violence seems to be much more likely to come from the political left.
And while in most areas (maybe all) you may not be able to carry a firearm while voting, I would strongly recommend getting your firearm back on your person as soon as possible after voting so that you have it in case the worst happens.
Because we don’t want violence. But we also want to be the ones who get to go home to our families if it forces itself on us.
