When it comes to some politicians (most politicians?), you can’t take what they say seriously. They’re just not telling the truth. And it’s worse than misspeaking, mistakenly saying something that was incorrect.
No, in many cases, it is outright lying.
And the mainstream legacy media, if that politician is on one side of the political aisle, just amplifies that message.
Today, though, we’re talking about the reverse: the mainstream media started the lie, and, then, a politician repeated the lie.
And it was an obvious lie. Chris Enloe gives us the details of the lie:
On Friday, the legacy media suggested that Trump engaged in “violent” rhetoric against Cheney, a former congresswoman who endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. They used it as evidence to scaremonger voters into believing their narrative that Trump is a fascist and wannabe dictator.
Pretty standard propaganda that we’ve come to expect from the legacy mainstream media, isn’t it? But here’s the thing, Trump didn’t say anything like that. Enloe tells us exactly what Trump said while talking with Tucker Carlson (on video, mind you):
“[Liz Cheney is] a radical war hawk.
“Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. OK? Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face,” he continued. “You know, they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, ‘Oh, gee, well, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.’ But she’s a stupid person. I’d have meetings with a lot of people, and she always wanted to go to war with people.”
The context is clear: Trump is criticizing Cheney as a “war hawk” and suggesting that she would not flippantly support sending Americans to die in war if she had firsthand combat experience.
Seems pretty obvious that the media is lying about this by saying that Trump is calling for Cheney’s assassination.
But, of course, Kamala Harris had to get in on the lie, too. Andrew Chapados writes,
The next day while speaking to reporters in Madison, Wisconsin, Harris pushed claims that Trump was saying he wanted guns pointed at Cheney’s face.
“[Trump] spends considerable amounts of time plotting his revenge on his political opponents,” Harris began.
“Even worse he has increased his violent rhetoric … about politic opponents and in great detail suggested rifles should be trained on former Representative Liz Cheney.”
“This must be disqualifying,” Harris said vehemently. “Anyone who wants to be president of the United States, who uses that kind of violent rhetoric, is clearly disqualified and unqualified.”
“Representative Cheney is a true patriot who has shown extraordinary courage in putting country above party,” she added.
Now, whether you think that Liz Cheney is a “true patriot” (as if Harris really knows what that means), for Harris to repeat this obvious lie speaks volumes about her lack of character.
A lack of character that is rampant from the anti-2A side of the political spectrum. Those politicians say the most absurd things with a straight face. It’s insane.
But this is a perfect example of the legacy mainstream media colluding with someone who just won’t tell the truth about guns.
And the American people deserve better.
