Ridesharing (Uber, Lyft, etc.) has become an incredibly common and popular way to get around for many Americans, especially when traveling away from home. Many people love the convenience of calling a ride on a mobile app, being able to choose details about what kind of ride that they want (type of vehicle, etc.), and get an idea of what they’re going to pay before actually calling for the ride.
On the driver side of things, many people like the flexibility that working for a rideshare company gives them because they can choose to work the hours that they want to instead of having to plan their family activities around their work.
Having said all of that, there is one option that millions of Americans would choose if they could when picking the rideshare company and driver that they want to ride with, but that simply hasn’t been an option.
Until now.
Finally, a ridesharing company is starting that allows you to choose to ride with a driver that you know carries a firearm and is trained to use it. Jacki Billings writes,
A new rideshare service is headed to Texas, offering an armed driver experience.
BlackWolf, a rideshare startup, will soon introduce the option for riders to select an armed driver with law enforcement or military experience. The option will debut in Houston, Dallas, and Austin as soon as recruitment is complete, founder Kerry KingBrown told Chron.
“The idea came from one of my clients that I was transporting; she was caught in human trafficking for about three years…she gave me the idea and said, you need to create something, some type of transportation for people like me and my daughter,” KingBrown said.
BlackWolf started in 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia, and has since gathered over a million followers on social media. The app, which has more than 300,000 downloads, operates in Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, and Phoenix, using 45-65 drivers to serve its clientele.
Frankly, I think this is a great idea. I know that if I’m traveling and need a ride somewhere, I’d rather ride with someone that I know is carrying and trained with their firearm. Especially if I’m with my family.
