How To Choose Your First Rifle [Video]

When getting into a new interest (or expand your interest into a new area), it can be incredibly useful to get the advice of another person, a person with more knowledge and experience, to help you to get up to speed more quickly.

On top of that benefit, when your new interest area has a bit of expense, that mentor/teacher can help you to save money overall, too, by helping you to make decisions that avoid costly mistakes.

And that’s always a good thing.

Now, if you’re like many people who didn’t grow up in a household that hunts, you likely either didn’t grow up around guns at all or, maybe, you grew up in a house that had pistols for self-defense but didn’t have rifles.

If that’s you and you have an interest in rifles (for hunting or self-defense), then, today’s video from Carter at Patriot Training Center explains things to look for when shopping for a rifle… and why your choice probably should be an AR-15.

You can watch his video below.

How to choose your first rifle

Solid information.

If you didn’t take the under 3.5 minutes to watch the video, though, here are the reasons that Carter recommends AR-15s to those just getting into rifles:

  1. Aftermarket support. Like Glock pistols, AR-15s are a very standardized platform, you can find a ton of customizations for your rifle. Basically, if there is a way to tweak or customize an AR-15, you can find an aftermarket parts manufacturer who is making that available. For some people, that means everything.
  2. Reliability. (Again) like Glock, AR-15s have a reputation for reliability. If maintained well, an AR-15 can go and go and go. And if you need to use it quickly in an emergency, that’s what you want.
  3. Accuracy. Many ARs can do 3 shot groups at 100 yards under an inch apart. As Carter says, “That is more than enough when you’re talking defensive purposes of an AR-15.”

Those are excellent principles to keep in mind when shopping for a rifle. And, remember…
