Fastest Draw Is NOT Always The Winner [Video]

What do you do when you find yourself at gunpoint unexpectedly?

Many people would answer that you need to draw quickly to surprise the person threatening you at gunpoint so that you can be the first to shot.

But is that always the best idea?

That’s the question that Patriot Training Center’s Caleb Lee set out to answer in today’s video. Now, Caleb is going to review two video captures of an incident, shown from different angles, so that you can get a good view of what happened. It’s very instructional to see. Watch it below.

Now, if you watched the video (and you did watch the video instead of just reading past it, didn’t you?), you saw that the person being attacked didn’t do everything textbook perfectly.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend shooting blindly over your shoulder as you run away. You’re responsible for every round that leaves your gun, after all, and you don’t want a stray shot from your gun to injure an innocent bystander or to damage anyone’s property if it can be helped.

Having said that, running away from an attacker as soon as you can safely do so is often a smart move. Remember, our goal when attacked is survival, not revenge, and the only justification for ever shooting someone else is if you have to do that to stop an immanent threat of bodily harm to yourself or someone else.

Satisfying your ego or adrenaline rush isn’t a legally justifiable reason to shoot someone even if it has been joked that in the South, “Your honor, he needed killin'” is a legal justification for shooting someone. It’s not (I do laugh every time I hear that joke, though).

Having said all that, sometimes moving quickly to first shot isn’t the smarter move. Sometimes waiting until you can surprise the person is the best option, and only then will speed to first shot make the difference.
