As a Second Amendment advocate, I firmly believe that the majority of American adults should have a firearm, train with it to get to proficiency and to stay proficient with it, and carry that firearm every day.
I absolutely believe that our country would be a lot safer… with the side benefit that would-be dictator politicians will start considering how they can take over other countries instead of going into national politics here in the U.S.
Because no one wants and love gun control as much as a dictator (if you doubt that, check history).
Having said all of this, though, there may be something even more important that having your firearm on your person at any given time. Now, this isn’t to minimize the importance of having your gun with you. But you have to have what we’re talking about today to even be able to make use of your gun when you need it.

We’re talking about situational awareness.
You absolutely must have situational awareness at all times because it’s this awareness that alerts you to get your gun and to be ready when it is needed to prevent harm to yourself or others.
And situational awareness can also help you to avoid needing to draw and use your gun at all by helping you to realize when you need to leave a place or by helping to keep you from going there in the first place.
Because the single best way to keep yourself from being a gun violence statistic is to not be where those with evil intent are pulling the trigger.
Situational awareness is, very often, exactly what keeps you from being there to be the victim.
So, yes, carry daily, and train to get and maintain proficiency, but also train and use situational awareness at all times.
And for when you find yourself in the rare and terrible situation in which you need to pull your gun…
