Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown For Gun Safety has released a gun safety course, and that only makes sense, right? I mean, “gun safety” is in the name of the organization, so they should know about gun safety just like someone with the last name of Farmer should automatically know how to grow luscious tomatoes.
If the world worked this way, things would be so much simpler, and Everytown would actually talk about real gun safety, not about banning guns and gun control.
But that’s not the case, not in this video or anywhere else. In fact, one writer took the plunge to suffer through their gun safety course, and the amount of garbage included would impress New York City trash collectors (hat tip to here for the lead). Lee Williams writes,
The instructor duo then presented an incredibly fictional group of statistics, which the site claimed came from the “Annals of Internal Medicine and American Journal of Public Health.”
By owning a gun, you double your chances of dying by homicide, they falsely claimed. And access to a firearm inside a home triples your chances and everyone in your home’s chances of dying by suicide.
If this is starting to sound suspicious to you, it should. And this is about their “SMART Guide to Buying a Gun” course. Williams continues,
This video tried to scare students. Guns are dangerous and should be unloaded, disassembled and locked up, the instructors repeatedly said.
Everytown’s so-called training course is chock-full of fear, which they use to scare folks, so they won’t ever consider buying a firearm, much less carrying one. As you’d expect, this makes it propaganda—anti-gun propaganda.
It is definitely not firearm training. It’s not even close.
And that pretty much sums up the entire course (Yes, Williams, through me, just saved you $20. You’re welcome.).
That course is a complete and utter waste of time, and it is simply a way for anti-2A people to feel like they’re being “open minded” about firearms and firearm safety when nothing could be further from the truth.
I would say that Everytown needs to stick to what they know, but anti-2A propaganda and activism is wrong on multiple levels, too. The best thing that Everytown can do is to shut down and have their employees get real jobs actually helping the public.
