Your time at the gun range should, ideally, be fun, but it should not be only fun. It should serve a purpose, and that purpose is to make you more accurate with your shots, to make you a better shooter.
Why?
Quite simply, so you don’t miss in a self-defense situation. You are responsible for every stray shot and any damage or harm it may cause, after all.
Which may cause you to wonder how “safe” your ammunition of choice is when used for home protection. Will it do just what it needs to do and no more?
Or will it be incredibly dangerous to everyone in the general vicinity?
That’s what some YouTubers set out to figure out for you so that you don’t have to find out the hard way (by unintentionally hurting an innocent bystander).
You can watch the video below.
Now, as someone in the comments on YouTube pointed out, these walls are the kinds of interior walls (as in the walls inside your house or apartment, not the walls on the outside of the building) commonly used in the U.S. Other countries do have very different building codes which could be more resistant to stray bullets.
But my reaction when seeing how many walls my 9mm hollow points will go through (since I’m in the U.S.)? Holy crap!
9 interior walls (as in going in one side and out the other). Nine!
What about your preferred ammunition? .45? Depending on which type (ball, etc.), it could go through nine walls, too.
Even piddly, weak (but fun to shoot) .22 goes through two walls (four walls if you’re using .22 LR).
And I can’t emphasize this enough: You are responsible for the harm or damage of every stray shot that comes out of your gun. ALL of them.
So, you need to make sure that your shots are accurate, that you are missing as few as possible (ideally not missing any shots) in order to stop the threat without injuring anyone else.
As always, the best way to practice your skills is with dryfire. That’s why we’re giving away a FREE 30 day dryfire program that only takes 10-minutes per day here for you: http://freedryfire.com/YT
