Some states make repeated bad decisions. Just terrible decisions.
Now, maybe the people in office are the ones to blame for the bad decisions (and certainly, no matter what else is contributing to the problem, the people in office making those decisions are at least partly to blame). But maybe it’s the people who keep reelecting them who are to blame (because, after all, they voted for people making bad decisions).
At some point, though, you have to wonder what the end game is that these people are working towards.
Especially when some of the decisions being made seem intended to place that state on a collision course with federal law enforcement in what will likely have some violent incidents taking place.
To be more blunt, you have to wonder if the state of New York, a gun control zone which leans hard towards the political left, is trying to bring violent conflict with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to their state as has happened in Minnesota.
Is New York Governor Kathy Hochul trying to get people killed?
You may start wondering that. Chase Smith writes,
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Jan. 30 proposed legislation that would bar state and local law enforcement agencies from signing or maintaining agreements that allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to delegate certain immigration enforcement functions to local officers.
The proposal, which Hochul’s office called the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act, would void New York’s existing 287(g) agreements and prohibit federal agents from using local detention centers for civil immigration enforcement, including what the governor described as “mass raids” and detainee transport.
Here’s the thing: One of the reasons that ICE has been going into Minnesota and some other states is because the state governments in those states have not been picking up and detaining illegal aliens who commit other crimes because those accused criminals were illegal immigrants.
So, ICE has been having to come in and pick them up, doing local law enforcement’s job by picking up alleged rapists, human traffickers, murderers, drug dealers, and other people who are alleged to have done terrible things.
If those blue states’ governments had allowed their law enforcement officers to pick up criminals who broke laws in addition to immigration law, it’s very possible that ICE wouldn’t be in those states armed with firearms to deal with potentially violent situations with violent criminals.
And it sounds like Hochul is trying to create similar conditions in her state, too, which could lead to more awful results such as the Alex Pretti shooting which occurred in Minnesota (you can read more about that here).
It sounds like a set up towards an awful situation. If you are a legal gun owner, please take extra measures to stay level headed and avoid violence if at all possible. You don’t want to be the reason that a situation became worse.
