Whatever your feelings on Donald Trump and his policies, the man has had more than his fair share of assassination attempts (not that I think that anyone really wants to actually have “their fair share” of that particular metric).
And the attempts aren’t just by your garden variety crazy people either. Sure, they’ve seemed to all be rather oddball in one way or another even before their attempts to kill Trump, but they’re not completely off in delusion land. They actually have the capacity to think through those efforts (in some cases), which is scary, if you think about it.
None of them have used knives or other kinds of close-quarters-only weapons as their weapon of choice, either. No, they’ve all used guns (at least all of the ones that I’ve heard about).
And it looks like there was yet another attempt recently (at least that’s my best guess as to the likely intent). Sophia Vento and Max Rego write,
A man was shot and killed by law enforcement personnel at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., early Sunday morning.
Vento and Rego continue:
[Secret Service chief of communications Anthony] Guglielmi, in his Sunday statement, said Martin was seen by the north gate of the property “carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can.”
“He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment that he had with him, at which time he put down the gas can and raised the shotgun to a shooting position,” Bradshaw said. “At that point in time, the deputy and the two Secret Service agents fired their weapons and neutralized the threat.”
Fortunately, Trump wasn’t at Mar-A-Lago at that time, and no one other than Martin was injured.
Which leads us to a lesson for you and me and for the average American who can’t afford to have private security (or Secret Service) all of the time: You have to be able to protect yourself because no one else can get there in time when you need saving. So, you had better train and be ready if that ever does happen to you.
