Trump And The NRA: Does The NRA Still Matter?

The one organization that most anti-2A people hate the most seems to be the National Rifle Association. They view the NRA as the most visible anti-2A organization out there and the biggest threat to their efforts to steal our Second Amendment rights.

On the other hand, there are many pro-2A people who aren’t NRA fans either. These folks tend to view the NRA as too “moderate” about gun rights, preferring to work with organizations that they view as taking a hardline absolutist take on the Second Amendment, as in “shall not be infringed means not infringed in any way, shape, or form. At all.”

With a recent move by President Trump, some in the media are starting to question whether the NRA is losing their perceived influence on Republican politicians. Sarah Fortinsky writes,

President Trump is skipping the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) annual convention this weekend, his second snub in as many years of an organization long seen as a key political ally for Republicans.

Fortinsky continues:

While the prominent gun rights group has largely brushed off Trump’s decision to skip the event as a scheduling issue, some critics say it underscores the NRA’s waning influence in Washington after years of financial and legal turmoil.

To be fair, members of the Trump administration and some lawmakers will be in attendance, so it’s not as if the Trump administration is completely turning their back on the NRA, but clearly this does give some in the media a chance to try to make the NRA look less powerful, less influential, and less relevant.

Is that really the case?

I can’t say as I’m not any kind of insider in the Trump administration (I wouldn’t want to live in Washington, D.C. anyway) or of the NRA.

But the situation does highlight to some extent the media’s ongoing efforts to try to marginalize and minimize the gun rights movement by treating who they see as the representative organization of the movement as a “has been” influencer.

Don’t believe that lie. The pro-2A movement is alive and well, no matter what happens with the NRA.
