If there is one thing that anti-2A activists are nearly adamant about, it’s that defensive gun use, if it ever happens, is incredibly rare.
Never mind that nothing could be further from the truth.
The thing is that anti-2A activists want to control the conversation by setting a frame that assumes that defensive gun use is incredibly rare and, therefore, firearms are most often used to threaten and/or do horrible things to other people.
By starting from this assumption (frame), they can keep many people from realizing that the conversation is being controlled to move towards anti-2A activists’ end goal: disarmament of you and me.
And I’m not suggesting that people don’t do horrible things with firearms. They most certainly do.
However, for people to be able to gain real perspective on this controversial issue, they need to get actual facts in actual context so that they can see the truth of the situation and make up their own minds.
And what is the truth about defensive gun use? The Crime Prevention Research Institute gives us details:
The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) estimates there were approximately 330,000 violent victimizations involving a firearm in 2021. That same year there were estimated 1.67 million defensive gun uses. That is defensive gun uses are 5.06 times more than firearms used in crime.
Think about that. Defensive gun uses occur more than five times more often than “violent victimizations involving a firearm” happen.
It’s really extraordinary, if you think about it. Not that there have been that many defensive gun uses, but that the mainstream media and its “news” shows and shows for “entertainment” all continually push the anti-2A gaslighting.
They don’t want you to know the truth just like they aren’t interested in keeping people safe. They’re only interested in taking away our ability to resist them when they try to push their other political positions on to us.
The Second Amendment isn’t a suggestion, and guns are overwhelmingly used to save and protect more lives than they are to commit violence. More people need to know this truth.
