The United States has a large number of gun laws in place across the country. Frankly, it’s absurd to call the U.S. a “wild west” situation under the delusion that our government is following the Second Amendment closely.
In many cases, they’re not.
But many people in the anti-2A camp are under that delusion. They think that anyone can just go out and get a gun at any time without any hassle.
So to prevent dangerous people from getting guns and going on shooting sprees, anti-2A advocates push for gun control.
The thing is, the U.S. both is and isn’t the wild west situation that anti-2A advocates hallucinate that it is.
On the one hand, Americans, by and large, don’t just go around shooting people at random. In fact, when you remove the few high murder rates neighborhoods in the country, the rest of the nation (nearly all of the nation) is one of the safest place to live in in the world.
Not that you’d hear that from any anti-2A journalists who want to pretend in their reporting that the high shooting rate neighborhoods are the way it is nationwide.
It’s not. Not even remotely.
On the other hand, though, anti-2A advocates are right in their wild west delusions. There is clearly a black market for guns. After all, that’s where the people committing the vast majority of criminal shootings get the weapons used in those shootings.
And that’s where people who shouldn’t be able to get their hands on guns do exactly that. Michael Casey, Holly Ramer, and Kimberlee Kruesi write,
A man previously convicted of firing a gun at police shot at motorists on a busy road outside Boston, seriously wounding two drivers with an assault-style weapon and sending others scrambling before a state trooper returned fire with a Marine veteran who pulled over, authorities said Tuesday.
It’s just insane. This guy shouldn’t have been able to get his hands on a gun, but clearly he did.
And in very un-gun friendly Massachusetts.
Frankly, if gun control actually worked, this entire situation wouldn’t have happened.
But this situation did happen. In spite of gun control.
