There is a quote made famous by Mark Twain (who attributed it to British prime minister Benjamin Disraeli) that goes: “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
Frustratingly, when it comes to gun control, anti-2A activists and politicians use all three of those types of lies (though, my observation is that politicians and activists being paid by Michael Bloomberg… uh… gun control organizations intentionally use these lies more often than your woefully misinformed (because they watch the mainstream legacy media) relative over Thanksgiving dinner.).
Don’t ask me how I came up with such a specific example…
Anyways…
The fact of the matter is that statistics, when taken out of context, can be made to say just about anything that you want them to say… including the exact opposite of what they actually say when taken in context.
Which is why propagandists who care about power over truth take statistics out of context regularly.
Fortunately, for you and me, a lawyer decided to get into the weeds (his words) with a study that is regularly used to say that people who have a firearm in the home are nearly three times more likely to be the victim of a homicide.
That sounds like a crazy statistic… because it is.
If it were true, we could and should talk about why that is.
But it’s not true, and we need to talk about why that statistic isn’t true and what the truth that is being misrepresented by that “research” really is so that we can look for ways to reduce violence based on reality.
You know, so that we can look for ways to reduce overall violence in society that actually work… unlike gun control which doesn’t make the world a safer place.
And here’s the video of that lawyer completely taking apart that completely misleading “research:”
That video has a good chance of being the most useful eleven minutes that you’ll spend this week because not only does it give you ammunition to verbally combat gun control arguments, the video also gives you good grounding in how to better understand and think about any issue and argument so that you can get a real understanding of the issue and not the surface level understanding that anti-2A zealots propagandists want you to believe.
On a non-sarcastic and completely serious note (yes, really): Share this video with your friends, both for and against gun control. If they’re honest people actually looking for the truth, it will be worth their time to watch and think about it.
