Parenting can be a difficult topic to cover. After all, most parents genuinely do love their children and want the best for them, and most parents are doing the best that they can to give their kids the best opportunities in life.
Sure, there’s always room for growth and improvement in that area, but most parents, despite the impression that you may get from some media talking heads, don’t permanently damage their children.
There are a (thankfully rare) few who do, though, and we’ll be looking into a really messed up situation like that today.
What we’re going to be looking at is how a Texas mother is accused of being an appallingly neglectful and inattentive parent. We’re not talking about a parent who is a single parent with not as much time as she’d like to be with her kid because she’s working full time to provide for him while also taking care of home chores. No, we’re talking about the kind of inattention that is leading her child to be accused of planning horrible things. Paul Sacca writes,
A Texas mother provided her 13-year-old son with ammunition and tactical gear despite the fact that he was exhibiting violent tendencies, according to court documents.
Officers with the San Antonio Police Department on Monday arrested 33-year-old Ashley Pardo. She was charged with aiding in the commission of terrorism after she allegedly provided ammunition and tactical gear to her son.
Now, mind you, the child had expressed a fascination with previous mass shootings, with Nazi ideology, and the child had attempted to commit suicide by cutting his wrists.
Yet, he had access to firearms, ammunition, and tactical gear.
Not good.
Look, I’m all for kids having curiosity about life, about history, and about understanding different ideologies. The affidavits for this case, though, make it sound like the kid has emotional challenges going on, is fascinated by people doing horrible things, and has shown a willingness to do horrible things (starting with himself).
On top of that, according to the affidavits, his mother defended her child’s violent musings to the school.
All of this information came out after the child was arrested for planning a school shooting.
Kids should learn about firearms and about the world, but they also need guidance to make sure that they don’t have horrible accidents or do something terrible. And parents should have an idea of what is going on with their children.
Because the children deserve better than this situation in Texas, and none of us want any more of these kinds of scary stories.
