A Most BIZARRE Road Rage Shooting Incident

Of all of the indefensible crimes to commit, road rage may top the list.

Think about it: If you’re on the road, and someone does something that you allow to make you angry, is it even remotely rational to try to confront them either by getting them to pull off the road so that you can assault them or to try to confront them in a moving vehicle?

No, no, it’s not. It’s someone showing that they lack emotional control.

That lack of emotional control is something that you’d more likely expect from children, even teenagers with all of the stresses and changes of the teen years.

Now, take the emotional volatility of teens, add in a Tesla and a gun to go along with the legal minors in the Tesla, and you have a road rage incident that is wrong on multiple levels. Dave Urbanski writes,

A male and female — both just 17 years old — were charged in connection with a road rage shooting in Georgia.

I wasn’t kidding about those details. Urbanski continues:

A driver told police he was heading west on I-20 when a white female — Myers — pulled up beside him in a blue Tesla, WJBF-TV reported. The driver said a black male passenger — Howard — pointed a gun out of the window and fired five to six shots at his car, the station added.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office officials found a gray Toyota Camry with multiple bullet holes, WJBF reported.

The station said the Tesla left the scene, taking exit 194 — Belair Road — in Columbia County.

One victim was shot once in his ankle, WJBF said, and the other victim was shot once in her left shoulder.

Both victims were taken to Doctors Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.

There was no word on what sparked the incident, the station reported.

Myers and Howard both were charged with two counts of aggravated assault, the sheriff’s office said, adding that Howard also was charged with one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

How many bad decisions all went together to make this road rage incident?

I can think of several, certainly not the least of which is someone allowing a 17 year old, who is clearly not mature enough to handle it, to have access to a firearm.

Now, these two teens could potentially have the rest of their lives ruined. The situation was serious enough that their mug shot pictures were released which often indicates that they will be charged as adults, not minors.

Two lessons to take away from this situation: 1. know your children’s maturity levels and what they have access to, and 2. always carry in case you have to defend yourself.

Fortunately, this incident wasn’t worse than it was, but it could have been fatal for multiple people. You need to be able to defend yourself if it comes to that.
