First, California’s government came for the Glocks. Then, another gun control group said that they’re going after other manufacturers, too.
And why wouldn’t they? With just the stroke of a pen, so to speak, California was able to get Glock to change nearly their entire product line, discontinuing the majority of current models, and introducing new models that couldn’t be “easily” converted to fully automatic pistols.
Never mind that it was illegal to make the conversions. They decided to go after Glock anyway.

But something just happened that made this entire situation even more absurd (I wasn’t sure that was actually possible) and makes the point that pro-2A advocates have been saying, the point that anti-2A advocates have been completely ignoring which makes gun control a pointless exercise in futility. A writer going by Larry Z gives us details:
The entire pitch behind the V models was simple: make the pistol unable to accept a switch, slam the door on conversion, and get California and a handful of other states off Glock’s back. In theory? PR win. In reality? The internet took one look at Glock’s redesigned backplate geometry and said, “Write that down. Write that down.”
Before most stores even have these things in stock, someone has already managed to fit a switch into a Model V. Not hypothetically. Not “maybe with the right gear.” No, confirmed. The gun community essentially speedran Glock’s entire engineering department while holding a Dremel and a Red Bull.
And of course, the reactions were priceless from the AK Guy. “You can’t stop the signal.” “Life finds a way.” “At max two weeks” became “not even a month after the announcement.” Glock thought they were building Jurassic Park electric fences. The internet delivered the T-Rex anyway.
That’s right, Glock redesigned nearly its entire line to avoid legal troubles in California and lawsuits from anti-2A zealots in other states’ governments, and less than a month after they announced that, the solution to convert one of the new Glock pistols to a fully automatic pistol has already been revealed.
Except, unlike the switches for the Glock lines being retired, the switches for the V models are only fully automatic. There isn’t a way to switch the pistol back to semi-automatic due to space limitations for the switch.
In other words, California’s legislation and anti-2A lawsuits against Glock just made the situation worse (in their eyes) because there is no option except automatic with those switches.
So, they passed legislation to “solve” a problem, and said legislation made that problem worse? Where have I seen that happen before?
Of course, the anti-2A politicians completely ignore the fact that the part to make Glocks fully automatic was already legally required to be registered, so they banned a completely legal gun (which should prompt a ton of massive lawsuits against California about this).
It’s absolutely absurd, and anti-2A people completely miss why gun control doesn’t work: human ingenuity will always find a way to do what people want to do.
And in this case, apparently, they want to be able to make Glock pistols fully automatic. Or to frustrate anti-2A activists, and this is a handy way to do it.
So, if you want to decrease gun violence, the solution isn’t banning guns. The solution is instilling morals and self-control into people who lack those… or to make those people too scared to act on their amorality and lack of self-control by allowing absolutely everyone to be armed.
