2A: The New Civil Right?

From the very beginning, we were told that government protection of civil rights was always about ensuring equal treatment in society and especially equal treatment under the law.

When it comes to gun ownership, though, in blue States and in blue cities, that hasn’t been the case, and gun owners have been consistently treated as second class citizens in many ways.

That may be becoming a thing of the past, though, based on implementation of an executive order by President Trump (hat tip to here for the lead). David Hood-Nuño and Sarah N. Lynch write,

The Justice Department plans to expand gun-rights protections with a new office in its civil rights division dedicated to enforcing the U.S. constitutional right to bear arms, according to plans shared with Congress and reviewed by Reuters.

The office, called the Second Amendment Rights Section, expects to open on December 4 and will be dedicated to investigating local laws or policies limiting gun rights.

The section intends to execute the broad policy directions from a February executive order, opens new tab issued by President Donald Trump directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to comb the entire U.S. government to “assess any ongoing infringements” of gun rights.

Frankly, this action has been too long in coming (not that we would have seen this under either of the previous two Democrat Presidents), and I’m glad to see it.

For too long, Democrat politicians have run roughshod over basic Constitutional rights, and the right to protect yourself from oppressive government (which is why the Second Amendment was put into place in the first place) and from those being dangerously aggressive toward you is one of the most fundamentally basic human rights.

Of course, those leaning towards the political left completely ignore the historically racist roots of gun control (see here for more on that), so when they argue that the DOJ should be focusing on racial equality instead of 2A rights, they show how utterly clueless that they are (and about how little that they actually care about racial equality).

2A rights are one of the strongest ways to prevent oppression of any group of people, including minorities, and, thus, 2A rights are human rights, and 2A rights are civil rights.
