If you’re politically minded, you probably already know who Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is.
If you’re not familiar with her, she is a member of AOC’s “Squad” who, like the rest of that group, hasn’t found a politically liberal idea that she doesn’t support. And that includes even the most ridiculous gun control proposals.
So, it’s not really a surprise, I guess, to see Omar promote a gun control scheme that has failed time and time and time again (hat tip to here for the lead). Mark Chesnut writes,
I’m a big fan of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Somali congresswoman who always speaks her mind. Of course, I’m not a fan because I like her politics. But I do like the fact that nearly every time she speaks out in public, it serves as a warning for freedom-loving Americans that a true threat exists within our own federal lawmaking body.
Such was the case recently when Rep. Omar was caught on camera weighing in on a critical issue that many of us haven’t thought about for a while. In a video reposted on the Texas Gun Rights X page, Rep. Omar enthusiastically shared her views on registration and what always follows registration—confiscation.
Now, in the video, Omar promoted the idea of a federal gun buyback scheme. Which you know, if you’ve paid attention to how that has played out in other countries, leads to things like higher murder rates (see London after gun bans) and rampant government oppression (see Australia over the last few years).
Because, of course, when the general populace doesn’t have firearms, the people who do still have guns (criminals and the government) use that power to oppress those who have been disarmed.
Of course, some would argue that the government oppressing the people is exactly what Omar and her friends want in the U.S.
Whether that is true or not, the fact of the matter is that the best way to ensure freedom for our children and grandchildren is to keep our right to bear arms now.
