If there is one thing that you never want to happen, it’s that you never want your firearm to give you an issue in the middle of a gunfight (i.e. defending your own or another person’s life).
If your gun stops feeding or stops firing for any reason when you need it, that leaves you not just without the ability to defend yourself, in many cases, but it also leaves you vulnerable for longer than it takes to fix the issue or to grab another firearm.
Why?
Because when you’re focused on putting bullets or shot into a target, an interruption to break that trance can cause it to take a few moments for you to realize what is going on. Especially in a high stress situation like when someone is shooting at you.
And that extra time coming back to the rest of the world leaves you vulnerable, even if you have a backup firearm.
It takes a bad situation and makes it worse.
In many cases, though, a firearm malfunction cannot just be cleared; it can be prevented. As an example, Carter with Patriot Training Center shows you how to prevent many misfeeds on a Beretta shotgun. You can watch that video below.
Once you know how to prevent the problem (at least with this shotgun), it’s not a difficult malfunction to prevent.
But God forbid that you have jam while needing it to go boom. That’s absolutely not the situation that you want to be in.
Fortunately, a little bit of knowledge goes a long way, and once you know how to prevent this particular misfeed, you can almost guarantee that it won’t happen to you (as long as you stay a bit vigilant).
Of course, every type of firearm and different models within the same types of firearm will have different ways to deal with this problem, and it would be a smart move to take to make sure that you know those ways so that you have them available for you to use should the situation ever come up.
