I’s a never ending source of fascination for me to continually see new variations and options for firearms coming out on the market. One day it’s a new micro compact with higher capacity than even other recent releases, and another day, it’s the largest production shotgun on the market, and on yet another day, it may be a new variation on an AR platform firearm. There’s always something new.

But, like anything else, everyone has favorites. That’s why, despite the explosion in popularity of higher capacity micro compact pistols, there are 1911s that still sell like hotcakes. Some people just love a larger framed pistol.

But not everyone has the kind of money that many 1911s or other larger frame pistols go for, so, one manufacturer, Taurus, has, apparently, decided to do something about that by releasing a full-frame DA/SA 9mm pistol with a budget price which they’re calling the TH9. Seth Rodgers writes,

Overall, there is a lot to like about this gun at this price point. All the controls are ambi, and it features well-made mags, access to aftermarket support, and a large capacity. However, there are still a few things I wish were done differently. Let’s take a look.

Pros:

– Budget friendly

– Large 17+1 capacity

– Comfortable full-frame pistol

– Ambi oversized controls are easy to actuate

– Two Mec-Gar magazines

– Nice case with mag loader included

– Accessory rail

– Novak Sights

Cons:

– Magazine release tough to actuate at times

– Mags don’t always fall free

– Not the most accurate gun

– Wish it had deeper slide serrations and front slide serrations

Rodgers sums up his thoughts on this gun this way:

Is this gun worth it for such a budget price? I would have to answer, “absolutely.” Any shortcomings it has could be overcome with training, but that is the answer for most guns. The fact is this gun doesn’t have a ton of shortcomings for the price, which makes it a good value.

You can see an unboxing video of this pistol below.

Obviously, for those who like larger pistols, there is a lot to like about this gun, and the value, like many releases from Taurus over the last several years, appears to be solid. So, for the budget conscious, if they’re not expecting a boutique firearm at this price, they’re likely to feel pretty happy with their purchase.

So, if you’re looking for a full-frame pistol but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to get it, the Taurus TH9 may be a pistol to consider.
