How hard should you grip your gun?
If you’re new to firearms, this question may not make sense to you, but believe me, it’s an incredibly important question for you to consider.
Why?
If you’re talking about pistols, which we’ll be focusing on here, it’s because having an “improper” grip on your gun can cause accuracy issues, and the fundamental rules of firearms focus strongly on both not missing what you are aiming at and, at the same time, not hitting anything that you don’t intend to hit.
And if the reasons for that aren’t clear, we should step back a few steps more to look at the bigger picture.
On the positive side of accuracy, it’s important that you hit what you’re aiming at the first time, if at all possible, because you may not get a second chance to defend yourself (and we’re training to stop an imminent threat of physical harm or death, right? We are not out here with the intent of hurting people as our primary intent, only as a necessary evil if that must happen to stop the threat.).
On the negative side of accuracy, you want to be accurate because you don’t want to accidentally hurt anyone that you don’t have to in order to prevent an imminent threat of physical harm or death. Remember, you are responsible for every bullet that comes out of your gun, so you must do everything that you can to make sure every shot is important to save someone’s life.
And grip is one of the biggest factors in being accurate in your pistol shots when you pull the trigger.
To get a better understanding of how the strength of your grip on your pistol affects your accuracy and of how to make sure that you are using the right amount of grip strength, check out the video below from Caleb Lee with Patriot Training Center.
Fortunately, the answer to the grip strength question is easy to figure out, and Caleb gives a clear answer to that question (you did watch the video, didn’t you?).
