As we get closer to the 2026 midterm elections in just a few months, it’s worth taking a moment to consider them.
Why?
Well, one reason is that midterms get a much smaller turnout than elections in Presidential years, so it takes fewer people to make a difference… whether that’s a difference that you like or a difference that you dislike.
Also, consider that it’s very common for Congress to flip to the party opposite of whoever is in the White House at the midterm elections which, in this year’s case, could mean the killing of any chance of pro-2A legislation getting passed while Trump is in office.
It’s actually a bigger deal than most people think. David Codrea with Firearm News writes,
Second Amendment advocates are on a roll. After decades of attacks on the right to keep and bear arms, and the passage of innumerable federal, state, county, and municipal lawfare against that right, momentum to undo past damage and establish protections against infringements has been building at an accelerated pace.
Codrea continues:
All those hopes could be dashed on Tuesday, November third, and the only people who can see that they are not are gun owners. That’s the date of the midterm elections and depending on who wins, momentum will also be created for the 2028 presidential election.
Codrea goes on to say that if pro-2A candidates lose in the midterms, we could very well be looking at a DOJ and an ATF that are hostile to the Second Amendment again.
We’ve been through that, and I, for one, don’t relish seeing a return of those terrible policies.
Now, whether Cordrea is right about those departments going back to the dark side, the fact of the matter is, at the very least, flipping either house in Congress Democrat will likely kill any hope of pro-2A legislation in the next two years, and maybe longer.
Personally, I’d rather not take that chance.
