Writing about firearms has an interesting side effect: after a while, many things no longer surprise you. Anti-2A nuts are going to keep pushing their nonsense. People will still do incredibly foolish things to push their political agendas around guns. David Hogg hasn’t found an issue that he’s come to a rational, reasonable position on, especially guns.
But, still, something came up that, if it wasn’t true, I would have never believed it, and today is one of those situations.
A guy in Colorado is alive today for the most unlikely reason: something saved his life. And you may want to be sitting down when you read what it is. That staff at The Epoch Times writes,
A metallic necklace shot with lead in Commerce City, Colorado, last month may have incidentally saved the neck of its owner, the intended target of a shooting.
After the violent incident, the chain worn by the unnamed male victim was photographed, mangled and blood-stained with a bullet slug still lodged in one of its links. It was posted on Commerce City Police Department’s (CCPD) Facebook.
In the May 29 post, the officers acknowledged the chain as “likely the only reason the victim of the shooting we responded to yesterday is still alive.”
Now, someone is almost certain to ask what caliber of bullet was shot at this guy, and, yes, it was “only” a .22. But before anyone gets snarky, remember a .22 shot with precision can be just as effective as your 9mm or .45.
So, yes, this guy is fortunate to be alive after the incident.
And I suspect that if someone shot you with a .22 that your necklace, somehow, kept from going through an artery in your neck, I’m sure that you’d feel incredibly thankful, too.
After all, it’s not every day that someone gets shot, and their necklace saves their life.
Well, about the 22 caliber. It’s my understanding that it’s one of the most deadly rounds. The reason being that once inside the body it tends to ricochet off bone. My brother was shot in the chest, and before the bullet quit traveling it had clipped (just) barely his heart then continued to ricochet back and forth through his lungs. He was pronounced DOA at the hospital. And yes, I’m pro 2A.
