If you’ve been following the news, then you know that one of the more… confusing… active shooter incidents occurred within the past few days.
Now, sure, there have been plenty of shootings over the years over silly, petty things, things not even remotely worth taking the life of another person. In fact, that may be what most gun violence is over: things not worth anyone dying over.
And that fact points to what people wanting to reduce death counts should really be focusing on: returning a sense of the value of life to people in our society.
Which leads us back to the recent shooting. Reuters reported:
New York City homicide detectives sought clues on Tuesday as to what possessed a Las Vegas man to drive cross-country and storm into a Midtown Manhattan office tower to open fire with a military rifle, killing four people, including a policeman.
Gunman Shane Tamura, 27, brought the carnage to an end not long after it began on Monday evening by fatally shooting himself in the chest on the 33rd floor of the Park Avenue skyscraper, which houses the NFL headquarters and offices of several major financial companies.
Tyler Durden notes,
[The alleged shooter] reportedly had grievances with the NFL but ended up on the wrong floor during the attack, ultimately killing himself on Rudin Management’s floor.Â
Also:
According to a CNN source, a suicide note was found in Tamura’s pocket expressing Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE)-related struggles.
Now, at the time of this writing, we don’t know the definitive cause for the shooting. If it was due to a grievance with the NFL, you have to wonder why no one pointed him towards a more productive way to handle his struggles and grievances.
What we do know is that this situation is tragic and that it shouldn’t have happened.
We also know that if gun control actually worked, this shooting shouldn’t have been able to occur.
But it did, and it happened in New York City which has some of the more restrictive gun control in the country.
So let’s be honest, a huge amount of the blame for that is that anti-2A activists spend all of their time trying to ban the tool (firearms) instead of actually addressing the root causes of violence in society.
Maybe if they did that, they’d actually be able to make a positive difference in the world.
As it is, they’re wasting time trying to steal our rights without actually doing anything to solve the violence problem.
