Leftist political policies are the most bizarre and often contradictory mishmash of ideas and directives. Leftists like to pretend that they’re intellectually consistent, but, then, you end up with odd stories like the one that we’re talking about today in which leftist policies clash with each other.
Which policies are clashing today (because we could pick from any number of them)?
In this case, it’s two of the left’s absolute favorite policies: immigration and gun control.
Now, let me start by saying that, since this is a gun site, I’m not going to be so much commenting on the immigration aspect of this story. I’ll just be commenting on the contradictory ideas that leftists hold and, of course, on gun control.
Katabella Roberts gives us the details of today’s story:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said on July 28 that it arrested a reserve police officer who was illegally present in the United States after he allegedly attempted to illegally purchase a firearm in Maine.
That’s right, an immigrant who overstayed his visa was hired as a reserve police officer and, when he tried to buy a gun for that work, it notified ICE to go get him.
The anti-ICE rioters in California must be completely confused by this story because they won’t be sure whether to be upset with ICE for picking up an illegal immigrant or if they should be happy that the government is keeping a firearm out of someone’s hands.
Now, the acting Field Office Director of the Boston ICE office that handled this situation accused the police department that the immigrant worked for “of ‘knowingly breaking the very law they are charged with enforcing in order to employ an illegal alien.’”
Here’s where the story gets even more bizarre:
In a separate statement on July 29, Old Orchard Beach Police Chief Elise Chard said that Evans had received approval from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to work for the department as a summer reserve officer in May.
That’s right, the DHS authorized him to work for a police department… even though he wasn’t here legally or legally allowed to purchase a firearm.
The Federal government is working against itself, it seems.
I’ll let you decide what’s right and what’s wrong in this situation. Goodness knows that leftists are bound to just be confused and conflicted about who to support in it.
