The Fatal Equilizer

When Samuel Colt was first getting his firearms business off of the ground, his advertising included a slogan that read, “God created men; Col Colt made them equal.” meaning that a firearm puts people on equal grounds when it comes to who has the ability to injure the other.

This is exactly the reason that I’ve long argued that guns allow women, who are typically less physically strong than men, to fight on equal footing against a male attacker.

And a young man in Mississippi found that out the hard way recently. Dave Urbanski writes,

A Mississippi woman fatally shot a 15-year-old home invader over the weekend — and police later arrested his alleged accomplice.

Jackson police told WAPT-TV that two males wearing ski masks broke into a unit at the Park at Inverness apartment complex on Ridgewood Road around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police told the station that the woman in the unit, fearing for her safety, grabbed a handgun and fired multiple rounds, hitting one of the masked males.

The masked male fell to the floor and later died, and his body was partially inside the apartment when police and investigators arrived. The coroner confirmed that he had been shot several times, WAPT said.

Now, I’m not going to celebrate that young man’s death. It is tragic. Period.

But based on what we’re reading in this story, the kid allegedly did some bad things, at least one of which put him on a path that ended in his untimely death.

And if the lady who pulled the trigger didn’t have her firearm easily accessible even at night, who knows how this story hay have turned out instead.

So, for the ladies in your life, encourage them to get a firearm that they’ll shoot, and make sure that they get the training that they need.
