Gun ownership in America (and in the rest of the world, too), is fraught with trouble. Sure, it’s different issues in different parts of the world, but some of the troubles are common around the world.
Sometimes firearms are stolen. Sometimes stolen firearms are used to commit a crime (other than the stealing of the firearm). Many governments work overtime to convince their populace that they don’t need guns to defend themselves… while simultaneously not defending their people and, sometimes, even being who the populace needs protection from.
But sometimes, even in the U.S., even in areas where they aren’t trying to completely suppress your Second Amendment rights, people get thrown into jail even when they do everything right.
Today’s story is about one such person who happens to live in a constitutional carry state. Colion Noir explains the situation in the video below.
This is a crazy story. I’m even familiar with the store that he bought the gun from. It is a major firearms retailer in the state of Georgia which is located in the northwest Atlanta metro area. I have a good friend who buys all of his firearms from that store and swears by them.
This store knows what they are doing and does things right.
All that to say, it wasn’t the young man or the store that caused the problem.
The problem came from bureaucracy.
That’s right, the thing that still could cause this guy to be stripped of his Second Amendment rights is a bureaucratic error.
It wasn’t evil anti-2A governors or city mayors (though, Atlanta does have a bit of a history of having politically left-leaning mayors).
It was paperwork.
And while this, thankfully, isn’t a common situation to come up, this situation perfectly illustrates why there shouldn’t be background checks at all (it’s not like criminals get background checks anyway).
We should ban both background checks because that bureaucracy can (and will) be used to try to prevent you from exercising your rights.
And that’s wrong.
