There is a curious tendency in human beings to assume that the rest of the world is experiencing the same life that you are. Even if you intellectually know that other parts of the world live a different experience of life, there is still that tendency driving human behavior.
That’s one reason that people find it so difficult to grasp how other countries have gone off of the deep end when it comes to gun rights and decided to confiscate firearms.
But a foreigner who lived in a country which is, essentially, a giant gun-free zone coming to the U.S.? They see the Second Amendment differently.
Why?
Because they’ve experienced what it is like to be helpless to defend yourself from criminals, whether the criminal is a common thug or gang member or whether the criminal is the government.
So, when they get to the U.S. and have the opportunity to have a firearm, the opportunity to be able to defend themselves, they experience it differently than many Americans do.
They experience the contrast between not being able to own a gun (in Britain) and being able to, in the States, realistically protect themselves.
Of course, I’m not speculating about this situation. A well known British actor and comedian, Russell Brand, recently was able to experience what it means to have a firearm in the U.S. You can watch Colion Noir’s video below talking about Brand’s comments on this subject.

Dignity.
The feeling that you have the ability to own and control your own life. The feeling that comes when you know that you can fight back if some bully tries to put you on your knees to lick their jackboots.
Dignity is something that every human being should be able to experience, and being able to defend yourself is fundamental to that feeling.
Brits have lost that feeling of dignity, but Americans? We still have it, and we should do everything that we legally, morally, and ethically can to keep it.
