How Many Shots Will It Take? [Video]

Many people like to talk about how “you only need ten shots” to defend yourself in a violent situation (looking at you, California) or how a revolver will “absolutely have enough” shots to get the job done.

Other people, though, argue that you need more ammunition in your magazine than six or ten shots. They argue that you need to have as much ammunition already loaded and ready to go with your firearm as you can practically conceal and carry.

Of course, they give lots of reasons for that such as how do you know how many attackers that you’ll be dealing with? More attackers means that you have to make more solid, accurate hits with your firearm to be able to be the one walking away from that violent encounter.

And, then, there is a reason that Caleb with Patriot Training Center brings up in the video below in his analysis of a real (as in no actors involved) gun fight situation. Now, the video below does show scenes of violence where someone gets shot, so please make sure all younger viewers are out of the room before watching it.

Did you catch the reason that Caleb gave as to why you should never voluntarily limit your magazine capacity?

If you didn’t, the answer is this: You don’t know how many shots that it will take to stop the threat.

Even if you have phenomenal accuracy and are using a firearm with plenty of stopping power, the fact of the matter is that different people have different pain thresholds, and different people respond differently to both adrenaline dumps in the body and to being shot at.

You can’t predict how any person might respond to you shooting back, and you don’t know how many shots that it will take, so you should have as many cartridges on your person as you can reasonably carry and conceal.

That’s the answer, and it’s worth remembering because the life that you save by carrying even more ammunition may be your own.
