Grip is huge in shooting.

And I’m not talking about when someone tells you to “Get a grip!” Those people are not usually trying to be helpful when they do that.

But when it comes to using a firearm, getting a good grip is one of the single most important things that you can do.

The problem is that many people don’t get a good grip on their firearm. They don’t get solid purchase on the pistol grip or wherever else they place their hands. They don’t do what they need to do in order to control the gun.

They make the common beginner pistol grip mistakes.

Thankfully, though, Carter from Patriot Training Center has a short video (under 3.5 minutes) going over the biggest pistol grip mistakes that he sees during training and how you can fix those mistakes.

You can watch the video below.

Now, even if you’re an experienced shooter, watching that under four minute video gives plenty of good information to work with to improve your shooting performance. Not just at the range, but when you absolutely need good performance to save a life.

And everything that Carter talked about in the video is about improving your gun control, primarily (but not only) by increasing the amount of surface of your hands that is on the gun’s surface, as much on the frame as possible.

Do you think keeping your primary hand’s thumb from blocking your support hand from getting a more complete grip on the gun will help your recoil control and improve accuracy?

Absolutely.

Do you think that gripping your gun with your primary hand as high up as possible underneath where the slide is will help your recoil control and improve accuracy?

Absolutely.

Do you think being able to control your firearm by using your hands in the most effective way as possible to facilitate that control is a good idea?

I certainly hope so because using your hands that way will only help you when you need it.

So, take Carter’s advice to heart and work on this aspect of your shooting process.
