Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is about as friendly to gun ownership as vampires are to sunlight.
This isn’t the kind of guy that you would expect to be able to give you tips about how to take down that 15 point buck on your hunting lease or to have good information about how to protect yourself if attacked by someone initiating violence (that’s what his bodyguards are for, after all).
Bloomberg is out of touch when it comes to guns, gun uses, and the legal rights of gun owners.
But that’s not stopping him from wanting to train you in gun safety.
I wish that I were kidding about that. Larry Keane gives us the details:
The Michael Bloomberg billionaire-bankrolled gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety is rolling out a new firearm ownership campaign to teach gun owners how to be safe and responsible with the firearms they’re bringing into their homes. It would be easy to dismiss this as the stuff of comedy writers. In fact, it was hardly believable until NSSF staff saw it with their own eyes at the recent National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) held in Boston, Massachusetts.
And if that weren’t ludicrous enough, in addition to “gun safety” classes promoted by an organization that wants to ban guns, pushes for red flag laws, pushes legally-enforced gun lock up programs, and other gun control nonsense, Everytown also has a “class” called “Raise Standards in Your State,” which sounds suspiciously like a class on how to push gun control where you live.
Notably, none of the class listings mention any range time.
Because nothing helps you to know how to be safe while handling firearms like never actually shooting a gun, right?
This is the kind of nonsense that I would expect to see in a Monty Python sketch but without the humor value.
Sadly, there will be people who will fall for it, so we need to step up our efforts to educate others on firearms and the Second Amendment.
