Australia has been through quite a bit over the last few decades. Left-leaning politicians have made life difficult for everyone living there from what I’ve heard.
For example, you’ve heard about the gun confiscation scheme which anti-2A activists hold up as their poster child for “how banning guns saves lives!”
They conveniently never mention that the rate of decline of gun violence in Australia didn’t change when they implemented gun confiscation. It was already decreasing before confiscation and didn’t decrease any faster after confiscation.
So, clearly confiscation wasn’t what made the difference in those statistics.
Unfortunately for folks there, violent crime statistics are doing exactly what gun rights advocates said would happen: They’ve gone up.
And a self-defense expert has a few things to say about it. Josh Spasaro writes,
Self defence expert Daniel Jones says Australians should reconsider the sensitive issue of gun ownership amid a spike in violent crime.
Jones says,
“In the hands of a law-abiding citizen, I do believe an armed society is a safer society.”
Sounds like he has his head on straight on this subject. He even makes some points that anti-2A zealots in the U.S. would be smart to pay attention to:
Regarding the stigma around gun ownership and violence in the United States, Jones said there were misconceptions.
“What a lot of people fail to realise is in some [U.S.] states, it’s actually very hard to get a firearm. In the left-leaning states, there are higher gun-related crimes involving gang violence, or they’re drug-related,” he said.
“In open-carry states, what you tend to find is there’s a lot less firearm crime.”
These statements are right on point. Legal gun ownership decreases crime and saves lives.
It’s gun control that prevents law-abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves, especially when there is a size or mobility difference between the attacker and the victim.
Firearms are the great equalizer.
And that is one reason why I absolutely think that constitutional carry should be implemented across America. It’s our right to have firearms, and our duty to be able to protect ourselves and our families.
Goodness knows that governments can’t do it.
