We live in a dangerous world, and while you may believe that overall crime is increasing or decreasing (depending on who you listen to), the fact of the matter is that crime still exists. And that means that innocent people suffer.
You and I know this, and no matter what other reasons that we may have decided to become legal gun owners, self-protection is nearly universally another big reason to own firearms.
Of course, you’ve heard me say it before, you should always be carrying, and you should train to reach and to maintain proficiency with your carry gun.
The simple reason for that is that you don’t rise to the occasion. You fall to the level of your training, and that means that you should always go with training that is going to give you practical skills that will work in the real world.
Part of the training that you need to have is for situational awareness. I absolutely believe that the best defense is to avoid the situation where violence can happen in the first place, and if you’re paying attention, you can often spot potentially troubling situations and people who are trouble makers before they become your problem. That’s always a win in my book.
Another of the big areas of weakness that too many gun owners fall into is that they train for a reality that isn’t real. What I mean by that is that too often, people build up an idea in their head of how an attack such as a home invasion is going to happen, but the reality is often very different. And if your training to protect yourself in that type of situation is going to help, you need to be dealing with reality.
Caleb Lee with Patriot Training Center has some advice on for you about how home invasions really happen. You can watch him below.

Now, it’s worth rewatching that video a few times to catch all of the information. It’s solid information.
