Browning has been manufacturing firearms for years, so you’re very likely familiar with the brand. They have a reputation for making a qualify weapon, and reviews are confirming that their Buck Mark pistol lives up to that reputation.

The Buck Mark comes in a 22LR caliber and weighs 34 ounces. Browning notes about the frame that, instead of being manufactured from sheet metal stampings, “each Buck Mark frame is CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum to exacting tolerances.” And, as mentioned earlier, reviewers are really enjoying this firearm. A writer by the name of Eric notes:

At the range the gun shot flawlessly on multiple types of ammo with the one exception of Federal American Eagle. That was the only type of ammo that I found that it would have trouble with. It ran everything else like a champ […].

Eric had more good comments to say about the Buck Mark, but he did also mention two issues that he did not care for with this pistol. He writes,

First the all black front sight. This pistol (and my eyes) scream for a fiber optic front sight. To be fair, other models do offer this option, but their base model does not. If not a necessity, it would certainly be a great improvement as sight acquisition is slow with the current setup. There are aftermarket replaceable front sights which would remedy this.

Eric’s other complaint about the Buck Mark is the trigger shape. He did note that it is a personal preference issue which other shooters may not have an issue with, and he also noted that he adjusted to the “U-shaped” trigger the more that he shot the weapon. He writes,

Before firing the gun I thought that the trigger shape would be a huge deal, but at the range it seemed to just take some getting used to. For lack of a better term, its weird.

Still, if these two “oddities” (both of which can be changed with aftermarket parts, if you choose) don’t bother you, you may want to consider putting your hands on a Buck Mark and taking it out to the range. After all, every day is a good day for some enjoyable range work.

  1. While this looks like a well made pistol, Browning’s reputation for .22 auto-feed pistols in the past was deplorable. The specimens that I came across were “jam-omatics”, garbage. Why would I buy one now when I can choose from a wide selection of Ruger models that actually do have a very long reputation of well, just being awesomely reliable.

  2. i HAVE HAD ONE OF THESE FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS. i BOUGHT IT FOR TARGET SHOOTING. IT HAS ALWAYS PERFORMED PERFECTLY AND, FOR A PISTOL, IS VERY ACCURATE. I LEARNED QUICKLY WHEN IT WAS NEW HOWEVER THAT IT WAS A LITTLE FINICKY AS TO WHAT AMMO IT WAS FED. MY EXPERIENCE IS THAT IT DOES NOT LIKE FEDERAL AND WILL “SMOKESTACK” ABOUT 1 OR 2 ROUNDS OUT OF 10 USING FEDERAL (OR SOME OTHER CHEAP AMMOS). IT PERFORMS WITH COMPLETE RELIABILITY ON CCI AND OTHER MORE POWERFUL STUFF. IT ALSO LIKES A FIRM GRIP. IF I “LIMP WRIST” IT IT HAS A SLIGHT TENDENCY TO SMOKESTACK. IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TO OWN AND SHOOT.

  3. A friend of mine has a Buck Mark and he absolutely loves it. I wouldn’t object to owning one myself except that I have a couple of Ruger Mark 4 Bull Barrel versions so don’t need any thing else. My friends’ weapon doesn’t jam and shoots like a laser beam. Seems to be an excellent weapon in all respects to me.

  4. Love my Buckmark. Took my NYS pistol permit class with their Buckmark demo. Had to have one of my own. I got better model with fiber optics, adj. trigger. Love it! I have never had a jam. Eats any ammo. At the range everyone wants to shoot my Buckmark. Accurate, cheap to shoot, an all around fun and educational entry level 22. I have taught numerous people proper pistol handling with my Buckmark. Many have purchased their own.

  5. Have owned a Buckmark for years. I did switch to a fiber optic front sight. This pistol shoots like a rifle. The first time I took it squirrel hunting, I got four with six shots. Not to shabby for a sixty something. Shoots every bit as good as the old Colt I hunted with growing up.

  6. I sampled many before I bought and ran most through the mill. The buckmark had the best trigger and as accurate as any other also ate a wider variety of ammo than others. So, I bought a buckmark.
