Major City Makes SURPRISING Change To Gun Rules

Major cities in the U.S. aren’t known for being friendly to legal gun owners. They often have ridiculous restrictions on who can carry and where they can carry, even though criminals in those same cities completely ignore the laws and commit crimes, including gun crimes, without fear of consequences.

It’s one of the things that made me reconsider my desire as a young adult who wanted to live in a major city.

I don’t desire to live there anymore.

But I still understand the appeal of wanting to visit a large city. After all, there are concerts, sports events, museums and other things to do that only happen in large cities. So, if you’re one of those people who likes to visit large cities, but you want to keep your gun rights, one large city made a surprising change that may interest you. Tom Ozimek writes,

A gun rule change in New York City has expanded the ability of nonresidents to carry firearms in the Big Apple, in a move that has drawn mixed praise from gun rights advocates, who say New York gun laws remain too restrictive.

Citing the need to comply with recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) adopted an emergency rule on Aug. 8 that will allow non-residents to apply for concealed carry permits.

Effective immediately, the new rule establishes a process by which people who don’t reside in New York State, are not principally employed in New York City, and do not have their principal place of business in the Big Apple, to apply to the NYPD for a carry license.

The new rule also amends the process of purchasing and adding firearms to an individual’s New York City firearms license, while removing a requirement for gun owners to submit the content of their social media accounts for the past three years.

That’s obviously a good move on the part of New York City and a good effect of the Supreme Court’s gun rulings over the last few years. People visiting New York City shouldn’t have to give up their rights as Americans to visit a city that has too long been overrun with criminals with guns.

Now, hopefully, we’ll see other larger cities and states with gun control come into compliance with the court rulings, too.
