In Times Of Lawlessness, People Choose 2A Over Government Directives

I’ve heard that a famous curse in some cultures is “May you live in interesting times.” Well, I don’t know what other people did, but it seems pretty clear that we’re living through that curse, at least in some parts of the country.

Just to take one example, look at the wildfires in California this year. Six days ago at the time of this writing, the New York Post reported that the estimated damage at that time was between $250 and $275 billion. That’s more than the economies of some countries.

Don’t tell me that at least some folks in California did something to make someone angry enough to wish “interesting times” on them…

Now, the wildfires and the devastation that they’ve inflicted are absolutely horrible. If we look closely, though, we can learn some interesting lessons from the horrible situation, including a lesson about gun rights. Tyler Durden writes,

With police forces overwhelmed by the enormous scope of devastation in Los Angeles County, residents are starting to take matters into their own hands, defying mandatory evacuation orders to instead guard their homes and their neighbor’s property with firearms.

Yes, even in California, run by anti-2A zealots like Governor Gavin Newsom, there are people who are actually serious about being able to protect themselves and their property.

For example, after the police implemented a curfew to try to prevent looters from looting (as if that works…), we hear about this response:

“I have no patience for any of [the police],” wealth-management firm president Ross Gerber told the Wall Street Journal. “After you survive this, you don’t care what they say.” Toting a firearm, Gerber has been sneaking into and out of the mandatory evacuation zone to check on his house. He says he’s also joined neighbors in walking the streets and questioning those they don’t recognize.

All-in-all, it is being reported that 30 residents of the area are all doing something similar: arming themselves and protecting both their property and their neighbors property.

Which, if the police are overwhelmed, is really the only option that you have if you want your property protected.

Of course, anti-2A zealots don’t comprehend that this type of situation isn’t just realistically possible; these situations actually happen.

And having the right to own a firearm and to protect yourself and your property from those who initiate violence and who would take or damage your property is as American as apple pie. Maybe even more American than that.

In times of lawlessness, like they’re seeing after these wildfires, owning and knowing how to use your gun are what can and will, quite literally, save your life.
