If your first thought when you read the word “hybrid” is that we’re going to be talking about electric cars today, rest assured that’s not the case.
No, today we’re talking about a hybrid rifle, as in a cross between one very popular rifle type with another very popular rifle type. And instead of being a mutt (like that dog we had as a kid), this one isn’t particularly adorable; it’s just highly functional.
See, we’re talking about a rifle that takes portions of an AR-15 and merges it with portions of an AK-47 into its own unique rifle. Christopher Sodofsky writes,
Palmetto State Armory (PSA) is introducing an update to its Jakl rifle, the model 2.0. The PSA Jakl 2.0 is a long-stroke, piston-driven modern sporting rifle. It combines features from the AK and AR-15 style rifle to form its own unique pattern. Notable features include the ability to fold the stock without any additional mounts or adapters—because it doesn’t rely on a buffer tube to cycle—as well as a side-mounted charging handle.
The new 2.0 version no longer comes fitted with a mil-spec AR lower receiver and is not compatible with one. To improve on the aesthetic design as well as some functionality updates, the lower is now its own proprietary design. The same goes for the new folding stock and pistol grip.
Sodofsky notes that PSA plans to release a version with a pistol brace in the future and that the rifle will be available in both 5.56 NATO and 300 BLK.

Now, of course, many people will choose to stay with their preferred rifle type, AR, AK, or otherwise. But if you’re the kind of person that likes something a little out of the ordinary but still functional and practical, then PSA’s Jakl 2.0 may be a rifle to consider.
