If the political left actually cared about saving lives from gun violence and accidents with firearms, they’d be doing something different than trying to steal the rights of law abiding Americans.
Of course, it isn’t really about saving lives or protecting anything except government overreach on the part of the political left when it comes to how they approach the Second Amendment.
A bill has been proposed in one state, though, that, if passed, actually could make a real difference in saving the lives of children (hat tip to here for the lead).
Make no mistake: the bill isn’t pushing gun control. It’s pushing something that Second Amendment supporters have been advocating for years that the political left hasn’t even had the sense to do themselves: get educated. Darwin Nercesian writes,
The Utah State House has voted overwhelmingly (59-10) to support a bill requiring children to learn about gun safety as early as kindergarten. The Republican-controlled chamber is now sending the measure to the state Senate, despite concerns from anti-Second Amendment groups that say education on the deep-seated American liberty is somehow an unnecessary burden on young children. No, I’m not kidding. They really say that.
Of course they said that. Any excuse will do when you want to keep children ignorant and vulnerable (and, therefore, easily manipulated as adults). Nercesian continues:
The bill passed on Valentine’s Day, proposing mandatory instruction for elementary-age public school students on responding safely when encountering a firearm. The directive would also use age-appropriate videos and a live instructor to demonstrate best gun-handling practices, including safe gun storage, teaching youngsters to prevent avoidable accidents. Instruction would occur on a minimum of three occasions between kindergarten and sixth grade, lessons worth imparting on children, but not a schedule any reasonable person should label intrusive or burdensome.
Does the political left want common sense gun safety legislation? Do they want to save lives? Will they do it for the children?
You already know the answers to those questions because firearms safety education actually makes sense, and anti-2A zealots aren’t interested in actually making sense or making a difference.
No, what they’re after is disarming you and making you defenseless when they have more “mostly peaceful” riots to terrorize a populace into accepting leftist political positions.
Utah should pass this legislation and implement it, and every state in the Union should do the same.
Yes and teach them gun should be used for
it once was
I received gun safety & use in elementary school in KY. I taught my sons the same as it was discontinued before their time. A firearm is a tool, an inanimate object at the service of the user. Any tool can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Common sense is in short supply these days, unfortunately.
Age appropriate firearms safety and marksmanship should be a part of the K-12 curriculum. That would help to reduce negligent firearm discharges and promote appropriate firearm use and safety.
I was born and raised in a small.town in southwest Indiana, and everyone had to take an NRA gun safety course in fifth or sixth grade. I am sure it isn’t that way now (mid 1970s), but it was that way then. It was nothing for me and a friend to walk through town with our .22s and .410s to go shoot or hunt in junior high. No one looked twice. My how things have changed. We all grew up around firearms, and were taught how to use them. I got my first .22 in second or third grade. I still have it..one of my prized possessions.
YES, TEACHING GUN SAFETY SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS, .maybe as an elective !
Probably so. Used to in early days
Yes! Gun safety should be taught in schools and anyone that has any gun. It’s a must!
Children need to be taught to be aware and prepared, not afraid. Education and training, instead of fear.
Yes, I was taught when i was 7-8 yrs. I was shooting om a regular basis by the tim I was 15. I am not afraid of guns.
From what I see the anti-2A leftists is they want to disarm all the law abiding people to do god knows what…
Kindergarten is a good start but preschool would even be better that is when if they find a gun they think it’s a toy and that is when accidents happen …
Guns are out there so it has nothing to do with American liberty’s it has every thing to do with safety …
I agree. It should be taught in school. When I was in school we had a gun club where the kids would bring their guns to school, either walking or taking the bus. Over their shoulders or just carrying them. No one was afraid when seeing the guns in the open. Just another day. We knew real guns from toy guns at a young age.
Absolutely ! Yes it should be taught in schools.
All real good honest gun owners have been taught how guns are to be handled. They take courses to be updated on any vital information. This would be extremely helpful if everyone knows and learns of the safety handing guns.
YES. GUN CONTROL SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS.
Yes. I know it would be good to teach gun rules and regulations in school. I shot my first gun when I was 5 yrs old, but was taught gun safety before I ever shot a gun.
my husband has been a gun instructer for over 40 yrs.wehave 5 daughters who were shown his gun andtaught about them.all 5 have taken hunter education and gun safty,we always had a loaded gun in the housebut were told of the consequenses if theynever went in our bedroom without one us in there.my husband used to take off from work every year (without pay until he retired4 yrs ago.
he teaches hunter safety till this day and is very proud that there has been no problem with accidents.the teachers in his group are thankful for that.Don.t let them take the guns away.Teach your children and correct them dont let them be afraid of them.we need thm for protection today.not to show off with it and do crazy things.
