One of the welcome issues that Donald Trump campaigned on in 2024 was support of Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
While that shouldn’t have been controversial, we all know that anti-2A activists were incredibly hostile towards Trump over this issue, especially after having so much help from the Federal government during the previous administration.
Which brings us to today’s topic.
After four years of Biden’s hatred of the Second Amendment, it shouldn’t be a surprise that left-leaning bureaucrats are working to continue the anti-2A efforts of that administration.
In fact, some are calling those continued efforts outright rebellion against President Trump.
Who? Gun Owners of America. From an article at GunsAmerica:
Gun Owners of America (GOA) is sounding the alarm: the Department of Justice is actively defending Biden’s “zero tolerance” firearm dealer license revocation scheme—even under the Trump administration. That’s a head-scratcher.
The article continues:
Trump won again [in 2024] and reversed [the DOJ’s] course [on revoking dealer licenses for minor clerical errors], issuing executive orders that dismantled zero tolerance. His team even acknowledged that Biden’s ATF had weaponized the agency to punish law-abiding small business owners.
Given that reversal, everyone expected DOJ to support GOA’s lawsuits. Surprisingly, they’re doubling down on defense of the policy.
GOA now calls DOJ’s position an “open rebellion” against the Trump administration. DOJ lawyers still argue: (1) the policy didn’t cause any injury; (2) revocations weren’t automatic; (3) the Second Amendment doesn’t protect dealers’ commercial activity.
Yet ATF itself has admitted the policy was automatic and that minor mistakes punished honest dealers. These contradictions are all laid out in GOA’s latest brief at the D.C. Circuit Court.
That’s insane, and it sounds suspiciously like “sleeper activists” that are holdovers from the Biden administration are trying to continue implementing gun control efforts despite who is in the White House.
So, thankfully, GOA is taking this issue to court to get a court ruling on it. Why?
Without a binding court judgment declaring the policy unconstitutional, a future anti-gun administration could simply reinstate zero tolerance—again killing small businesses with a stroke.
Put bluntly, without the court ruling, a future administration could re-implement this zero tolerance policy to make it harder for legal gun owners like you and I to buy guns. It would be gun control without a law passed.
We need for GOA to win this fight to protect the Second Amendment for our children and grandchildren.
