Of all the places to be shot, if we’re being completely honest, there’s probably one place that you think would be the absolute worst.
For some people, getting shot in the face would be the worst thing, and I can understand that. Someone else may think that getting shot in the hand would be terrible, maybe because it would make it harder to fight back (assuming that the shooting wasn’t an accident).
Me? Maybe because I’m a guy, maybe just because the very thought of it makes me cringe, there is one place that I think would just be about as bad as it could possibly get. Why? Because, based on my experiences with occasional injuries there over my lifetime (in which, to quote the band The Smiths, “the pain was enough to make a shy bald Buddhist reflect and plan a mass murder”), I would expect it to be the most excruciating thing that could happen to me.
What is this potential place of injury? Dave Urbanski mentions it in today’s story. Urbanski writes,
Surveillance video allegedly showed the gunman walking up to the car, standing next to the driver’s side door, and firing two shots downward toward the victim’s lap, CWB Chicago said.
He then moved to the back of the car and fired several more rounds as he walked away, the outlet said, citing prosecutors.
The armed victim returned fire from inside the vehicle and again after opening the door as the gunman — identified as 40-year-old Michael J. Jones — fled the scene, CWB Chicago said.
The victim called 911 and was found on the pavement next to his car with gunshot wounds to his thigh, calf, and scrotum, the outlet added, citing court filings.
Can you imagine being shot in the scrotum? Pardon me while I go throw up at the thought of that…
That, to me, has got to be the absolute worst place to be shot. Sensitive, tender, but not a shot that will likely cause you to pass out, so you feel every single moment of the pain.
Just an absolutely awful thing.
